White people rarely invite blacks to their special events like weddings and funerals.

Black people are the opposite. You can rarely go to a black wedding or funeral and not see a CAC.

There might be some truth to this, but there's also 5x as many white people in this country as there are black people. Just statistically, you should expect it would be far more common to have a few token white people at black events than to have black people at white events.

It's just like saying, "I've been to lots of straight weddings with no gay people there, but every gay wedding has at least one straight person there."

Never, but I remember my father telling me as a kid that they don’t cry at funerals. I’ll never know if its true or not.

:manny:

I heard the same to an extent. There can be crying but it's usually not as overt. Whereas for black people, whether African American, Caribbean, or African, if you don't show out of emotion, people will think you don't care about the departed. If you're a black woman, a funeral and you're not about to pass out, it's looked at like you don't care. For white people, they'll be on TV the very next day talking about their sister dying and how do you want to spread the word for others to not die in the same way.

I remember my Dad watching the news with me and some white teenager was talking about her brother dying literally a couple days before. My Dad hit the :dahell:. " How is she on TV talking about her brother who just died? If it were a black girl, you think she could even talk?"

Decided not to go the funeral and just went to the visitation. But even that had a different feel then a typical Black funeral. Wasn't no funeral cars. Just one car for the body. Came in the church and it was so packed near the entrance. Everybody stood around talking. At Black funerals, everybody seated during that time. Including the family. The body was on the side. Not upfront where the preacher usually speaks. On the other side, they had a TV with picture slides of her. They also had a table with some of her favorite books (Les Miserables, Uncle Tom's Cabin :mjpls:).

Racially, I saw one brother. I was wondering if he was brotha or he was on some :mjpls: . Looked at him and he gave the "head nod". So, I knew he was a brotha. I did have one old Saltine come up to me.

D'White: How do you know _______?
Me: We used to work together.
D'White: Oh, that's great. Where do you work now?
Me: At a H.S. I work in truancy.
D'White: Oh, I can imagine thats tough
Me: Yeah, but I"m looking to transition. Just graduated and I'm looking for a school counseling job.
D'White: Oh, that's great. Never heard of school counselor having to PACK HEAT. Worrying about a kid going through the metal detectors getting at a school counselor.

And with that, that was my sign to leave. Didn't have the energy.

Two I think, mostly business related. People and families handle death differently. No way to know how it will go.

i honestly hate funerals in general, no way in hell i'm going to your funeral if you're not extremely close to me/closely related to me.
