absolutely WRONG...this team will go as far as he goes. he's the only prime shooting threat (gary is not near the shooter he is) and the only person on the team i trust at the FT stripe other than gary. the game changed in the 2nd half when K benched duval for taking dumb shots and put grayson at point. His passing/assists and ball protection were incredible against lengthy defenders.
I actually think this teams success is all dependent on Duval. He makes everyone that much better. Even Grayson admitted it. When he has sbitty games, the team has shytty games. Nice to know Grayson can pick up the slack when Duval plays like a freshman. Duval might be the worst shooting pg we've ever had.

Team looked better without Grayson period, the defense improved a lot. It's the same thing that happened last year when Kennard and Grayson were benched during capels Era... Grayson gets abused on defense. I couldn't tell if Shaka was attacking Grayson or if that was just the game flow...

You're extrapolating it into all games, I'm commenting on the Texas game and the fact that his shot wasn't falling and him being a liability against Athletics teams that attack the paint.

fair enough if you're talking specifically this game. I still feel that we were better overall with him on just b/c of his shooting threat. his defense lagged b/c of foul trouble and not wanting to pick up more stupid fouls. his 1 on 1 defense has been noticeably much better this season except for picking up stupid ticky tack fouls being overly aggressive. he opens up so many lanes for trevon b/c no one wants to help off him. then when he played PG, the offense flowed so much better in the 2nd half. He is perfect PnR partner for marvin or wendell b/c you have to guard him at the 3 point line or on the drive whereas the defenders can sag off of tre and double the roller or guard his penetration. regardless, props to trevon for watching how G was playing point and then playing much more under control when G fouled out.

this is why grayson is still the most important. tre needs to learn to play with controlled pace and find his scorers/shooters, but he's been taking alot of dumb jumpers/threes since the MSU game. there's no reason grayson and gary should be having such low FG attempts the last 3-4 games, and alot of that is on tre. he got a little too pumped up since MSU game and got out of his element/what makes him great. Once he mentally comes back down to earth and focuses on being a lead guard rather than a scoring guard, then yes he makes the squad super dangerous.

i can't say if his defense has improved, I just know him and Kennard were awful last year and they werent' really called out for it...

him being a senior I would assume he's gonna play smarter on D

but you're right with our PG position not being able ot hit outside shots, we will need Grayson, Trent, and AOC to do work on the perimeter to help Bagley an the bigs

1 on 1 he's been noticeably better, I just wish he would stop taking risks reaching or getting beat backdoor. i think having both him and kennard together magnified how bad they both were. even frank was a poor 1 on 1 defender whereas derryck thornton was a great lead defender at the PG position and grayson didn't look as bad defensively as a sophomore as he did as a junior. Part of that is injuries junior year, but having had derryck and now tre and gary next to him rather than frank and luke definitely makes him look better.
