Chicago Bulls analysis: Jimmy Butler relies too heavily on mid-range jumpers
Before he strained his left knee against the Denver Nuggets on Feb. 5, Jimmy Butler led the Bulls in scoring with 22.4 points per game on 45.8 percent from the field. Although these statistics suggest that he has been an integral part of the success of the offense this season, advanced statistics show that his scoring numbers are slightly misleading. Butler has hurt the Bulls offensively because of his shot selection.
According to NBA.com player tracking stats, Jimmy Butler has attempted 285 mid-range shots this season. Mid-range jumpers have accounted for 36.5 percent of his total shot selection, and, ironically, he is shooting 36.5 percent on these mid-range attempts. Almost 60 percent (59.6 percent) of his points on mid-range jumpers were unassisted.
The Bulls offense has fared slightly better in terms of offensive rating with Butler off the court which suggests that he has done something to hurt the Bulls offensively despite his impressive scoring numbers.
There's more in the article, but yeah, dude is a basically a blackhole who Hoiberg caters to to avoid conflict. It's horrible basketball to watch and a big reason why the Bulls offense has looked like a mess under him, and he's supposed to be this offensive mastermind.

I've been saying that Jimmy doesn't pass the ball. His chemistry with Pau is terrible.
Nah, he actually has good chemistry with Gasol... his chemistry with everybody else including the coaching staff if terrible.

Kyrie Irving scored 33 points on 12-for-28 shooting in Wednesday's win in which LeBron James didn't play.
Tyronn Lue wanted Irving to be aggressive with James out of the lineup, but a few Cleveland Cavaliers' teammates were puzzled by how he recorded just one assist in 39 minutes.
During one possession in the second quarter, Irving dribbled for 24 seconds and went nowhere before settling for a tough mid-range jumper.
Irving and Kevin Love combined for 176 touches but just two assists.
