Rethinking Recent NBA Draft-Day Debates

The Sixers have a minus-5.8 net rating in the fourth quarter this season, which ranks ahead of only the tanking Grizzlies. Philly’s defense regresses, transition opportunities become minimized, and thus the player it uses about as frequently as Cleveland does LeBron becomes limited in the half court.

Not only does Simmons not shoot well, he struggles to draw fouls on drives to the rim. Simmons has drawn 42 fouls and taken 398 field goal attempts on drives, per NBA.com’s Second Spectrum, for a ratio of nine shots per foul drawn — the equivalent of J.J. Barea. Ingram is at a more efficient five shots per foul drawn — the same as DeMar DeRozan. LeBron is also at five shots per foul drawn, and James Harden leads the league at three shots per foul drawn. Simmons gets to the basket with ease in the regular season, but the fact he almost exclusively uses his right hand and sometimes shies away from contact leads to a suboptimal free throw rate for a 6-foot-10 bulldozer. What that means for his game in the playoffs is a big unknown, but the players he often gets compared to — LeBron and Giannis Antetokounmpo — are far superior in shooting and drawing fouls.

simmons v. ingram gonna be an interesting debate going forward.
Lonzo and simmons more comparable imo. Both good rebounders/playmakers/don’t draw fouls. Lonzo better shooter and simmons better driver. Ingram is a potential 20 point scorer with lock down D

So is it true that Simmons has yet to make a 3 pt field goal in his NBA career?
In college, the LSU star took three 3-pointers, making one. In 2016’s summer league, he took one 3-pointer and missed. This preseason, he again took one 3-pointer and missed. Add in his 0-11 start to this season, and Simmons has made one in-game 3-pointer, total, since high school.

Every 3 he’s taken has been a halfcourt heave

there definitely is. Ingram is a year younger but growing fast. Ben Simmons hasnt made a three-pointer since high school, Ingram already showing potential as a 3-level scorer. Ingram continues to build his body and refine his skills he will be an elite well-rounded player. im not the only one that thinks this

Ingram is going to have to do more than score to be a better overall player than Ben going forward
