PG had his back facing the basket when he caught the ball.

DFS should've allowed him to catch the ball (instead of trying to deflect the pass) and then immediately foul him. He had more than enough time before PG got into shooting motion. You even said yourself that PG took "five steps" before getting his shot off - that's enough time to foul.
