I said this a while back - it makes sense straight up.

He's got one year left on his deal. Hayward, even if he isn't damaged good, doesn't fit with the team anymore. The best way to open up flexibility fast, would be Westbrook.

When Westbrook opts in, he's suddenly a 47 mil expiring to a team that can actually take advantage of it.

And I ain't worried about Lamelo - he's offball a lot more than people realize. If anything, he's asked to be the primary scorer and primary facilitator WAY too often. If getting Westbrick means we move from Hayward to Miles for real, stop running point guard stunt doubles like Ish and IT, and free up money ahead of schedule - then where's the problem really? If he's suddenly a jackass we just tell him to stay home like Wall he doesn't even need to play at an all-star level or even well to be a good move for the Hornets.

Plus the younger guys in DC all seemed to love Westbrook anyways. Despite the playoff push, people always seem to forget how young this Charlotte squad actually is.

I saw him drag the Wizards in the playoffs last year, and he does a good job with helping young players build confidence. And we need to get rid of Hayward’s contract if he’s gonna play 50 games a year.
