If Dame hasn't asked out there's no reason to field calls on him. It's all about appearances right now anyway. Taking calls on your star that hasn't asked out yet looks bad on Portland. Asking for a trade before Portland does something with the pick looks bad on Dame.

Not in this particular circumstance. Everyone knows they are 2 to 3 seasons too late on moving on from Dame, and that he's taken them as far as he can take them. Everyone knows it's time for them to trade him and if the package looks good they'd be stupid not to consider it and get some semblance of a new core started.
