1. MJ & Pippen
3. Magic & Kareem
2. Shaq & Kobe
4. Curry & Servant
5. LeBron & Wade
6. Bird & McHale
7. Stockton & Malone
8. Duncan & David
This was a really tough exercise because there's so much ambiguity in judging.
I have MJ and Pippen first because their primes overlapped so well, they stayed together so long, and they complimented each other so well. I would have thought it would have to be a guard and a big on top, but the two of them were so good that they defied that.
Magic/Kareem might have had the best single year (when Kareem won MVP and Magic won Finals MVP) and the best career pedigree, and they complimented each other extremely well, but the Kareem we got for most of Magic's run wasn't a peak Kareem, which is the only reason they're not #1.
Shaq and Kobe are here because Shaq was so dominant for that run, and they complimented each other very well even though Kobe wasn't peak Kobe yet.
Curry and Durant feel like they should be higher on pure skill as you're talking two MVPs both in their absolute prime...but it's just hard to judge when their entire team/system was so much better than the field last year, and they're not really showing their dominance this year. We'll see how it pans out after another 2-3 years.
Lebron and Wade here mostly due to Lebron, as Wade really started to fade after 2011 due to that balky knee.
Bird and McHale down this low as I have Bird significantly inferior to Lebron and McHale doesn't move the needle for me.
Stockton and Malone only ones on this list to never win. I think both are overrated.
Duncan and Robinson last because Robinson was pretty much just a role player by the time Duncan started balling. But I could be swayed to move them up a little on Duncan's dominance alone.
