My rankings

Good

RD - This is his best album by far
Vol. 1 - Not a bad follow up; the few bad songs are some of the worst songs Jay ever made
Dynasty - the most underrated; what vol. 2 should have been
American Gangster - The last Jay album worth listening to from beginning to end; lil wayne had no business being on here though

Average

Vol. 2 - honestly if it wasnt for nikka what nikka who and a few other songs it wouldnt make my collection
Vol. 3 - big pimpin was a huge song in high school and i have HS dance memories to it plus a dope preme track and some other..kept it at average
Black Album - hated this album from jump admittedly - no preme or ski like previously advertised..change clothes as a single :gucci:...:camby:
Blueprint - Thought this album was overrated, it was kinda lacking lyrically but beats were cool
Blueprint 2 - half fire half filler..this was not a classic double album
4:44 - it was a return to a better form from MCHG but lackin

Bad

Kingdom Come - the lead single i liked more than most jay lead singles..the rest of the album was jay doing too much
MCHG - boring trash
Blueprint 3 - shyt was trash, like unbelievable trash - ghetto techno was from those sessions (not on official release) and it might be the worst jay song ive heard since i know what girls like from vol. 1

Vol. 2 - 2/5
Vol 3 - 3/5
Dynasty - 3/5

The Best of Both Worlds - 0/5
Blueprint 2 - 2/5
The Black Album - 4/5
Unfinished Business - 0/5
Kingdom Come - 1/5
American Gangster - 4/5

Yeah cocaine is a helluva drug cuz you gotta be geeked the fukk out on that white to EVER think Vol 2 is a classic lmao. Both Vol 1 and 3 shyt on it and those are hardly flawless albums either.

And I don't give a fukk if it moved as many units as the last Avengers movie sold tickets, that shyt is TRASH that aged about as well as dog shyt. That's the album Jay sold the fukk out on. Most of the beats are trash. Swizz beats were awful - Money Cash Hoes might be the worst beat of all time. Beat sounds like a cat running across a CASIO over and over again. That shyt with Jermaine Dupri is trash. It's Alright would be better if it didn't have a retarded space laser in the beat. The joint with Kid Capri was flipped much better on Cormega's Fallen Soldiers. I'm good on ever hearing Hard Knock Life, Jigga What and Can I Get A... ever again - those songs are the definition of played out. Song with Foxy WAS GARBAGE.

Only songs I really fukk with are the Bleek intro, A Week Ago and Reservoir Dogs. Now that I think about it, that shyt isn't even a 2/5. That shyt is a 1/5. Thanks for reminding me.

Reasonable Doubt is a classic, lol, not no fukkin' Vol 2.

BP2 is criminally underrated. Might be the point where Jay entered his prime.
Lyrically and flow wise he was definitely an apex predator on BP2 and TBA. In 2002 and 2003 Jay was pretty much untouchable when it came to delivery. Dude had a million flows and crazy wordplay.

BP2 was just bloated, but if you take the best half of it's a mean single disc. If you liked Jay in the years he worked mostly with Just, Kanye, Neptunes, and Timbo, then you'll probably fukk with a lot of BP2. If you don't the RD and Volume 1-3 era Jay then you may not like BP2 as much, and I guarantee anyone that doesn't like TBA that much probably won't like BP2 very much.

Volume 2 is the most interesting album to me as far as public opinion goes. It's maybe the only album I can think of that has on one end people heralding it as a classic, and on another end people saying it's total trash and borderline un-listenable outside of a handful of tracks. I can't think of any other albums by a popular artist that have no middle ground. If you don't like it you get called a nerd by one half, and if you do like it you get called a sellout apologist by the other half.

FWIW you can blame Preme for that. Not sure why Ski didn't make the album but Preme didn't make his session (forgot if he no showed or was just super late) and 9th Wonder ended up getting the "street joint" slot on the album instead.

I always felt the beef with Nas motivated Jay lyrically and musically. He wasn’t as consistent on his past 3 releases. Even got more creative (Meet The Parents).

Why do people like Vol 1?

It’s his worse produced album and features some of the worse songs of his career

I think KC isthe one worse than that one, maybe MCHG too

I think the highs on Vol.1 are some of Jays best material and rivals some of his work on RD. It’s just the filler is Kingdom Come bad, like awful. I could never sit down and let that album play front to back. Feel the same way about vol. 3 and Dynasty.

I think Kingdom Come is really underrated also.
It was like 50/50. Some dope, some weak tracks.
But i think a couple of Jay's best songs are on there
and to me "Lost One" is Jay's best song till this day that he dropped after 'retirement'.

this is why I never get into these album ranking conversations because my tastes are totally different from 90% of the people out here. if I aint feeling the production I cant rank shyt that high.

Vol 2 is a classic to me. I played that shyt soooooo much when it came out. its my most listened to album by Jay, followed by RD and Vol 1. I felt Vol 2. put him on his way because although I liked Vol 1, it had some really bad missteps and the singles fukked up the perception of the album. Vol 2 was cohesive and the singles were good but the non-singles were very strong. the title track is one of the dopest sampled hip hop song of all time. you couldve put anyone on that track and it wouldve been a hit.

Dynasty is one of my favorites by him also. Criminally underrated IMO. the features on that album did their thing, especially Beanie.

RD is his only undeniable classic and Vol 2 is my personal favorite because of the time in my life where I was at. then give me Blueprint and Black Album. rest of them shyts only have a few tracks I can pick out from each that I fukk with.

Kingdom Come wasnt that bad. I couldnt fukk with 4:44
