It happens to everyone. If you feel embarrassed then it’s apparent that you don’t have any type of negotiation skills. Use this opportunity as practice to better that skill. Next time, practice the convo on someone and think about every possible scenario that can play out and have comebacks prepared that would leave your performance manager without any possible retort.

I have a lawyer friend who works at a very prestigious firm just practice on me a few weeks ago and he’s white. Everybody has to go through the same thing.

Update your resume and see what's out their breh. These companies don't give a damn about anybody but the stakeholders so don't expect any loyalty or for them to do the right thing.

If you’re really worth more, you should have at least one other offer lined up, and you should be ready to walk. If you don’t have that, then yeah, it can feel a bit emasculating.

YOU AREN'T ASKING. YOU ARE NEGOTIATING FOR YOUR RAISE. ACT LIKE IT WHEN YOU GO IN.

DOCUMENT YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS, GET RECOMMENDATIONS FROM YOUR PEERS, AND LINE UP UP A FEW OTHER OPPORTUNITIES. BE READY TO LEAVE IF YOU DON'T GET WHAT YOU WANT.

It is not emasculating at all. Your a man for asking in the first place. But now it is time to look elsewhere for what you feel you deserve.

You'll get it.
