There is still real money in fame and recognition. Look at something like Griselda. Gunn can still make millions off merch, shows, sponsorships, partnerships etc. while not selling many records. Smart artists use hiphop to build their brand and then leverage their brand into different areas. Everything is just more of an indie grind now unless you're the top 1%, but even they are using their brand to branch off more then ever before.

That’s why they all got podcast
This here. When that well dries up due to oversaturation they will jump into live streaming 24/7, someone is going to start live streaming album recording sessions and then everyone is going to jump on that wave.

The game should go back to being original, back in the 90's no Breh's from the 5 Burroughs sounded alike, now everybody sounds like everyone else.

See this the problem in and of itself. You say all those things, but ultimately if a rapper dont link up wit a label its a dub. Doechii been making music for 10+ years. Nobody knew or gave a fukk about her until she linked with TDE and got that backing.

She dropped the original "hit song" anxiety half a decade ago, then magically it "blows up" last year.

At the end of the day rappers need labels and if the labels themselves are cool on rap, the future of this shyt is lookin bleak.

I didn't argue against the label. I'm saying you have to do more than you've ever had to do in the past for relevancy because hip-hop has been deprioritized at major labels. If Doechii wasn't tied to TDE with a proven history of successful acts, I don't know if her major label would be willing to put in the work they're currently putting in for her. It also helps that she can produce pop music as well has hip-hop.

What im sayin is. If Doechii wasnt tied to TDE we wouldnt even know her. All the songs that got her popular were out for years. Nobody cared until she linked with a major label.

Some one brought up Westside Gunn. We wouldnt know of this motherfukka if he wasnt tied to SHADY/INTERSCOPE then eventually ROCNATION.

At the end of the day artists have to play ball with the majors n now it seems like majors have moved past hip hop. I doubt all these country singers and pop stars have to do all of this extra shyt. We are seeing a market shift and the culture is severely getting affected by it.

You know...I actually was going to writer about this dire affair of hip hop being washed and done. Remember when rappers used to be "in the house"? Remember when rappers wanted your undivided attention and moved the crowd with the power of a microphone?

Now rappers claiming to be outside and wondering why they are homeless :francis: . Hip hop in itself is a grind and a half. You don't move the beats, you don't eat. You either slang tapes like P, or be a dusty SoundCloud artist like yours truly.

The hustle is gone because the game gave away the secret sauce for cacs to manifest destiny. While people shytted on P, they should have used his blueprint and expand beyond the label.

While the East was shytting on the south, they should have had their cities in order.

While the cloud rap wave was thriving, mofos should have continued to let it rain.

Hell, we trolled Charles Hamilton instead of seeing his vision. We big up the Big 3, but single out contenders. Hell, artists period can't even get acknowledged by peers until they suddenly get a "TikTok" song stimulus, and its all "AYO THAT DUDE WAS HAWT!"

Where were you when that dude had the fire links to give, only for you to say "aite I check it out later", only to move on to the new Clipse album (ngl, I would but still lol).

Hip hop put itself in that place. Instead of being proud of being in the house, we wanted to be outside. Instead of finding that project bytch or saying you all I need to get by to our queens, we're smutting them out and fukking up what Pimp C took to the grave. Principle and stature.

Integrity and respect. This man made one of the most powerful songs of all time discussing the rap game in itself:

But we laughed as his bipolar ass until he said fukk it, I'ma be a podcaster.

there’s money in music. The get rich quick method is drying up which is better for the art. :hubie:

The industry has become over saturated with people who don’t care about the artistry of the culture. They’re just looking for a money grab and to establish their name. Maybe now we’ll get people who actually care about being real artist. Less Ice Spice, Gelo Ball, Streamers etc.

Rappers who built their career off record sales scared to drop since it’s a new era. Only the well skilled are now dropping music. Indie artists is where it’s at now. Mainstream is dead.

You people dont support rappers who arent backed by major labels. If major labels stop supporting rappers the whole genre is going to fall off.

Millions of people have made music "for the love" the past decade. You dont see no threads on em on here. But you WILL see a million and one Drake and Kendrick lamar threads.

If labels have no desire to make or support another Drake or Kendrick lamar. What is going to happen next? Motherfukkas gotta take this shyt serious or I dont think the genre is going to make it to the 2030s
"you people" god damn nikka cry more. If it dies then it dies. fukk it. Focus on shyt you can control
