Kendrick, Drake and Cole have been consistently the best selling and critically acclaimed rappers of the past decade. Those three are undebatable. The argument is really for the fourth spot

Pretty much. They have the sales and consistency, even if personally I only feel some of their music. Think it’s pretty obvious Future is 4, but I’m not mad at the Nicki debates either. Who shouldn’t be on there that I keep seeing is Wale, Big Sean, and especially Young Thug. They just don’t have the juice like that. No dude that fake cross dresses, makes up multiple aliases, and flops with every release should even be mentioned in something like this.

Yup I agree with you on Future and Nicki. I personally would put Nicki over Future but I can see why people would pick him. Big Sean, Wale, and Young Thug dont belong nowhere near the convo. If people gonna mention Sean and Wale they gotta mention Meek. Young Thug is actually more of an underground rapper than people wanna admit

A debate I really wanna see is the whose the Mt Rushmore. That shyt would be a bloodbath

Of all time? It’s gonna be some form the of the same generic all time names always thrown out: rakim, Jay, nas, big, pac, etc

but I think it’s stupid to even attempt one for 40+ years of music. There’s no objective measure of being the best rapper, there’s no objective measure of the best type of rap, this convo gets even muddier if you consider mc’s who were part of a group, you can’t do one and not make room for female representation, the only objective measure you could have is album sales, and even then there’s a pre-post streaming divide. That discussion would be arguing to argue unless people just accept the subjectivity of everyone’s answers

Edit: making a female mt Rushmore of rap would be much easier :ehh:

It's not a forced agenda as much as it is fact. After Kendrick dropped good kid, Mad City, you had artists biting the album cover and attempting to sequence their albums like a story a few months after it came out. Jesus Piece and Trouble Man come to mind. Kendrick's GKMC and TPAB became curriculum at universities.

:mjlol:

talk about impact...influencing the two of the biggest, corniest, desperados in the game.
you could have at least named YG and not two older heads more recently known for sexual assault.

I'm a fan of a couple of his songs but he's not the hip-hop savior imo that's he's made out to be, but obviously has gotten his critical acclaim. Love his content or not but future has put more music, more classic mixtapes, featured on more remixes, been played in more clubs and sports venues, that has given other artists success and that's not counting the amount of artists that have took variations of his style and made there own lane.

Jay, Kanye, and altho I don’t fukk with him like that Wayne. Fourth spot is Jeezy IMO, he occupies the spot future got in the 10’s - being the street/hood champ. But I could see 50 getting that even tho I wasn’t checking for him after massacre.

Who said Kendrick was a Hip Hop savior?

None of what you said really equates to him having more influence than Kendrick outside of artists who took parts of his style and making their own lane. Even still, that isn't the end all/be all of influence.

Everything else you posted just says that Future has more features and put out more music. There really is no way to guage how much either artist is played outside of streaming numbers.

2000's is way more arguable than 2010's though. 50 Cent HAS to be on that 2000's Mt. Rushmore as does T.I. 50 Cent fell off near the end of the 2000's, but his run was insane. He was a game changers as was T.I. You could even throw Nelly in there.

Breh, one has nothing to do with the other. You talking about gossip blog worthy BS, I'm talking about music.

TI, yep.

Nelly, nah. Thing about the 00’s is you can be much more prescriptive and take more things into account besides success - Nelly doesn’t match up to the other guys named in rap skill nor content nor influence. Now if we just talking sales, then sure.

There's others I would put before Nelly, but he was a big part of '00's Hip Hop, sales aside. He had moments during that decade especially how he was able to do navigate the commercial side and then go back and songs like "#1" (that ticked off KRS enough to diss him), hop on a remix with State Prop, and then have a hood record like "Grillz" go #1 near the end of his run.

If I’m being completely unbiased in would have to say Jay, 50, Em, and either Wayne or Ye

I know I’m gonna get shyt for saying Em tho
:heh:

I’m a big Jeezy fan but I just can’t put him over them

I agree TI gotta get mentioned but ultimately I think if he never was in the game not much would be different other than the fact he came up with the term trap music
