The Passage of Time
Bloggers/twitter is the most influential thing going in hip hop. They attempt to determine relevance and or your place in hip hop. And, unfortunately impressionable fans lie dormant all to eager to agree. Call me an old head, but I long for the day. When a song was released you listened and learned in solitude. And, the song itself was a sacrificed to the masses, introduce by a DJ.

Now, songs are introduce in a coordinated attack. A frontal assault to overwhelm your sence's. Record label, pimps a site(rap radar), that site has bona fides within the hip hop community. Rap radar gathers it's friends to promote the single or album to bombard twitter, the results "trending topic". They use social media to determine how hot you are. Trend a song, trend a video, it is relatively easy if you are on the good side of bloogers. It has nothing to do with hot or cold.

A&R's live for this, it is their most important hustle, why? 360 deal is why. An artist has to think in new terms, it's not about just the single. Its about branching, how can this song reach broader markets.

As record companies become more solidified and or monopolized. The big deal makers/distributors are becoming more conservative. Profit margin is the newest MF on the block, and he's bigger than Tupac.

Mix tapes, are under assault as we speak by the Big "2". Universal is the Plantation Owner, I'll be that boys pappy, since it purchased "EMI". Mix tapes will become part of the 360 deal. When major companies scourer the internet for new talent via A&R's, and once they get their hooks into as they are presently getting them into datpiff and livemixtapes "FREE, will become a FEE".

Right now it is advertisement based. Soon it will be revenue based. Pennies on the dollar, but pennies add up to dollars. They will condition you into a level of comfort, where as the free content was never meant.

To Be Continued, the road is winding and weary.

Sorry for the grammar and all kinds of other mistakes. I got little sauce in me, so please forgive me.
