Technically you could be able to see to Africa with a strong enough telescope but the atmosphere and your PERSPECTIVE will prevent you from being able to do so

I'm not sure if you understand how your eyes work but as you look over long distances your eyes/brain cause what you observe to converge to a point centered between your eyes. This also occurs when looking through a telescope, but the convergence point it just further away

How does atmosphere effect it? So if I look thru that telescope I'll just see the ocean line? Shouldn't the convergence line be far enough away that I could at least see Africa in the background?

I try not to spend too much time arguing with aliases. But it's not my burden to prove the earth is spherical. This has already been proven. I won't waste anymore cycles here.

Heat rising off of the earth/water distort light, just like how the view directly above a black top in the summer is distorted because of the heat rising off of it

Yeah I could imagine some heat wave distortion but I would think I would still be able to see it, at least a blurry version of it, like I don't have 20/20 vision but far away things don't just dissapear they look blurry
