word but reality is its time for all of us to put alot of these rappers into a retirement home of some sorts.. Rakim.. Kool G.. Slick Rick.. well Kool G still thinks he could rap sometimes..but the rest of them knew when to call it quits.. and some of these rappers need to

but why though??

Kool G Rap and Slick Rick would put out quality albums imo even today.

And they are still better technically than most rappers today...

Most hip hop fans are close minded to things that really dont even matter..

Who cares about age?

That's because the 90's rappers dropped the ball, and the world kept moving. In music you have a million people wanting to take your spot, so you have to keep working on your craft, and finding ways to stay in the spotlight. If not they will forget about you. 50 cent is good at being in the spotlight but, he is scared to go a new way with his music because he wants to be a winner every time he releases a record. I understand where he's coming from but, I guess that is what he created for himself. The best artist who stay around are the ones who aren't afraid to fail or be hated on, so they try new ways of doing music. Look at all the rappers who lasted over 5 years, and you will see this is what kept them in the game. Along with having a good team behind the scenes.

I do say the 90's rapper stayed around much longer then the 80's rappers. Those guys didn't advance at all. They would make music like it was the 80's when they rapped. the beat was the only different thing.

This is the biggest problem with hip hop...

There are alot of consumers but few fans

I cant take a year off for my family because I might come back and no one remember me...

I have to put out 100 tracks a year and water myself down or catch a charge so people can keep my name in their heads..

It really has nothing to do with the music anymore...

50 cent is being blackballed....Its so obvious at this point...

Look at what they rapped about and built their careers on, you can only rap that shyt for so long before it gets stale, and/or it no longer applies. Jay found new shyt to rap about, although its debatable whether people care for his billionaire flows, nas always had quality stories to tell so he floated along effortlessly. Honestly, only dudes like ATCQ, Kast, Face, common, mos def, etc set themselves up for long careers (even though they might not be as popular, their content at 40+ yrs old doesn't make you cringe). No one wants to hear mob deep bodying nikkas 20 years later, CNN still banging the hammer, etc. it's about content and growth moreso than they can't rap any more - though some did truly just get lazy

I don't see it that way. It's not hard to stay in the spotlight, especially in this day, and age. You don't have to put out a lot of music to be seen, in fact putting out less music is better, as long as it's some different banging shyt. It's called being a mystery, and having people wondering what you are brewing up.

It was ALWAYS about other things besides the music, you just never knew about it because music business wasn't in our face like it is now. Although music, is the main thing to keep you going. 50 cent may be blackballed but, from me being his fan for real, I'm not feeling his music like that. It seems like it's forced to be heard or to be a hit. I don't get that "feeling" from it like that. If I feel like this, a lot of people are feeling the same way.

why do they NEED to drop an album tho? plenty of acts in other genres go years without releasing anything. i agree that some are putting out sub par material but show me some artists that can keep dropping classic or amazing music over 20-30+ years after their debut. rappers like BCC, Wu, Redman, Dogg Pound, etc can tour for the rest of their life on the strength of the classics they released in the past and people will always be there to hear it.

I think some rappers are so bored, they just release shyt without caring..Just to be like yeah im still alive..lol..And thats wrong, but then if they dont release anything, the consumers puts them further down the list

As for 50,I think his mixtape stuff is cool..Iovine is basically trying to tear his soul down...lol...That nikka could put lady gaga on that shyt and it would still flop..

I dont even think jada drops that much considering what other artist outputs are
