ive heard people say that they dont like ballin raps about how much money and cars they have because it of this reason exactly

theres been people who complained about that since forever.

the difference is that there were more options back in the day. the people that didn't like ballin raps had native tongue, gangstarr, etc. then eventually they had the roots, common sense, the rawkus crowd. I can literally list hundreds of rappers that were dropping albums.

lets get to the real core of the problem here folks.

naw the shiny suit era took the shyt to a whole new level

theres really no such thing as a shiny suit era. its an overstatement.

wutang peaked during this so-called era. bone thugs knocked puffy out the #1 slot. no limit records officially became an empire. the refugee all-stars had the whole neo-soul crowd, rap/r&b hybrid chit on lock. "2pac was still alive", droppin new albums and selling trillions of records. BCC was still huge, 3-6 mafia was coming thru, the west coast was still doing they thing, the Midwest double-time chit was at its peak, female rap was at its apex of success, you had the roots, dungeon family, common, rawkus was about to blow, old school rappers were bustin thru the cracks and getting a 2nd wind, so so def was jam central, the swing mob had mad hits, the def squad was big. you had dudes like jeru da damaja dominating the rap city countdown.

and man, that's just off the top of my head.

what choices do you have now? seriously? I can count them on less than one hand.

Only white people take offense to shyt like that, I might say rappers need to rap less about they chainz and money, not cause im jealous or mad, but maybe I just want to here and topic after a while

And rap sales is down because of internet downloading, I dont know 1 black person under the age of 22 who owns a real retail copy of a cd, I sell cds as a lil side hustle, I really burn new shyt and put people on artist before they become mainstream, If I didnt sell them I wouldnt have no room for a physical cd, I also charge people to put music on they phones and ipods, which I buy from itunes :scheme: (nice day officer

Im a bigger music head then anybody I know and I only brought 1 cd in my entire life, and that was when my cd man went to jail for a week, and I really needed that

Sorry black people just not going buy a cd for 10-15 dollars when we can get for free, or 3 cds for 5 or even 1 cd for 5

And now that everybody has smart phones the cd is really a boutto die, cause only place they get play now a days is in the car, but more and more people learning about aux cords and fm transmitters

Rap sales will never go back to where it was

I just feel like the dude busting his ass in a warehouse for $10-$12 an hour feels a certain way when he hears rappers talk about walking around with $5,000 in his pocket just to go shopping...

Rappers are shooting themselves in the foot and don't even realize it...

Then that dude workin for 10 bucks an hour should do the following things if he "feels a certain way"

-get a better higher payin job
-stop bein so gatdamn sensitive about how much money other people make
Stop listenin to rap.

Why should rappers feel compelled to not rap about flossin just to not offend poor people? :mindblown:

I think it has everything to do with it, I feel like Rap fans today are getting tired of the played out, "I got money, hoes and clothes" theme in mainstream rap..

That's why you seem niccas struggling to sell, while rappers with actual devoted fan bases like, Nas, K.Dot etc sell without a problem..

I remember at Rock The Bells last year during Cudi's show, he had a part where he started talking about how, "Fvck these rappers that talk about Ferrari's and Lambo's, we ain't got that shxt" etc and the whole crowd was with him on, it was crazy :whew:

I think these sterotipical, niccas like, Ross, Trinidad James, Meek Mill etc will be a thing of the past soon, labels are going to realize. That type of rap doesn't sell like it used to, then you see Cole, Drake, K.Dot, Macklemore doing nice numbers with not even half of the amount of promotion the others niccas have and there it is.

That constant "I'm better than you, got more hoes, money, and jewerly than you" raps are getting old as fvck, it's cool on a couple records but rappers be doing it throughout albums.

They need to stop rappin about it bcuz it makes they music sound repetetive and they'll probaly never make a classic doing that.......but I don't think fans really care if nikkas rap about that if we think u can do it well....matter fact dudes who play the "regular guy" role get more hate than the flashy nikkas.....and I'm not sayin u don't have the right to think j colee, wale is wack or boring....but they seem to get more hate for NO REASOn than other wack nikkas in this shyt, unsolicited hate:russ:.....it ain't like they even in your face or bein pushed down your throat but people go out they way to listen and talk about how boring as shyt they are....this shyts about selling a lifestyle and maki it interesting, whether u regular or flossy it u gotta be able to convey it in a new interesting way.....and most these new cats don't have a interesting perspective with it or new take on shyt....its more of a "we heard this before" thing than we broke and don't wanna hear u rap about money thing

They still out sell rappers who don't talk about jewelry or money, though. K.Dot is one of the few that did move units.

not the same.

you just named a pop-rapper and a bunch of plants(not sure about krit being a plant but you get the point).

all you have left is a christian rapper and a rapper that's not from this era.

Problem is CAC like dude you're arguin against will never admit anything made after the 90's as dope :patrice:

im a "cac" now? the funny thing is, your whole argument in the post after this reads like it was typed by white fingers.

and lol @ the other comment. I more than likely forgot more bout this era of hip-hop than you'll ever know. and I most likely support current hip-hop more than youll ever attempt to.

the problem with the rappers that youre hyping up is that they have no real wave. theyre corporate rappers with no real standing without their labels.

you sound like a noobish d*ckhead that's young, dumb and on top of that, prolly only experienced hip-hop thru via your laptop. so you probably wont understand. meanwhile, somebody like me can see this chit from a mile away.

go sit your nobody @$$ down and learn something.

this sounds more like a testament to the said rappers' lack of talent, rather than their content.

TS makes some of the worst threads ever.

nikkas were flooded in Gold in the 80's, but now in 2013 rappers talking about jewelry/money need to chill.

Everybody knows the decline in CD sales is do the the rise of the internet... but fakkits like TS think it's cause of the excessive wealth that rappers are bragging about now ( even tho it's been going on for 30+ years) is why CD sales are dropping.

Ur response has nothing to do with me as the consumer who has plenty of styles sounds and personalities to choose from when it comes to the music:patrice:

Average rap fan makes less than $30,000 year before taxes.
(You can argue that this figure is low but its accurate and I will debate you on this with data if you feel like the average rap fan earns more than $30,000 a year...)

Anyway I just think a part of the disconnect with rappers and fans and the steady decline of rap CD sales might have something to do with the flaunting of wealth to the fans. Fans might feel less of a duty to buy the CD if they are constantly reminded of the G's and stacks their favorite artist talks about on every song.

:what:

It's 2013. That's why nobody is buying CD's.
