excellent arguments from both sides of the fence.. Personally I think ESTABLISHED artists should stay away from it. Rick Ross, Jeezy etc... Now if you Migos or somebody, hey do you. You aint gonna sell anyway..lol

But it puzzles me how Labels let them do this nowadays. I mean its got to be some kind of kickback for them. I need to research it. Back in the day, you couldnt get a clearance from a label to do shyt like that.

And why is this only in rap music and sometimes R&B? Other genres seem to thrive on the regular model of releasing music.

ITS HELLA HARD TO BUY AN ALBUM THESE DAYS WHEN YOU KNOW YOU CAN GET THE LEAKED VERSION REAL QUICK AND 9/10 THE MIXTAPE THAT CAME OUT BEFORE IT WAS PROLLY COLDER ANYWAY. BUT IF YOU fukk WITH THE ARTIST, THE RIGHT THING TO DO IS SUPPORT. THEY NEED TO START LOCKIN DOWN THEIR MUSIC OUT AND START RELEASING IT FOR WHAT EVER THE CONSUMER MAY WANT TO PAY FOR IT ($1-$1,000,000). MUSIC IS AN OVER-SATURATED ARTFORM AND THE GAME IS FXCKED UP BUT ITS STARTING TO CHANGE. LOOK AT WHAT NIPSEY JUST DID. I THINK THAT IF THE ARTISTS BOTH INDEPENDENT AND MAJOR LET THE CONSUMER SET THE PRICE POINT. THINGS WOULD START TO SHIFT INTO BALANCE AGAIN. THE LINES ARE ALREADY BLURRED SO WHY NOT?

I was coming to disagree...

but, after reading the op.. :wow: he's right.

Some artist like budden wouldn't be shyt w/o mixtapes, but most artist need to focus on making 13 song classics.

No the fukk they don't. The labels don't give a fukk about what the fans like. That's why these shyts be littered with features and throwaway tracks, and keep getting pushed back til they can maximize sales and what not.

Not to mention sample clearances.

Nawl...keep dropping those mixtapes.

shyt....Wiz STILL has'nt dropped a hotter album than Kush and OJ, which was a mixtape.

These dumb ass rappers keep using rap as their "hustle", that's why they lose fans. You an artist? Cool. Drop some music you fukkboi :camby:

Yeah, it's like we gotta work the hardest for the least amount of respect, recognition, and quality of any format of music.

I agree with ths OP. I also think artists should wait 2 years between albums instead of putting albums out every 9 months or so.
