This is such a disingenuous statement. Gangsta rap started in the late 80's / early 90's and people like C Deloris Tucker, Tipper Gore, Oprah, and others all spoke out against it. Back when it was fresh and new. They tried to nip it in the bud early but folks weren't having it.

I was recently watching this episode of Oprah with Ice T and all the Juelzing he does to try and justify the bs in his music was :snoop:

There's 4 parts to the video but I'm sharing this since it gets right to the point

If you watch the rest though you'll see how hard people fought for this, even the white label execs since it was making them the most money.

At the 0:48 mark this sista is so passionate about keeping the content alive. You would've thought she was at church preaching. This is after another sista says that she has 2 brothers and sees the changes in behavior and attitude the music has done to them.

And mind you, this is back when dudes like Eazy E and Ice T weren't actually that good at rapping and we're pretty much just talking over beats and saying fukked up shyt. No type of art or skill to it.

Yeah, it’s a very disingenuous trap card that they pull out when other groups get on rappers necks for disrespecting them. They think since rappers have been A ok with disrespecting the black community, that other groups should just be A Ok with being disrespected by black rappers. :mjlol:

That’s when ppl pull out the “How come we can’t disrespect other groups, but it’s ok for us to disrespect our own, and no one bats an eye”, well, where were you when the older generation tried to have gangsta rap banned? When was the last time you were offended by violent anti black lyrics by a black rapper? Or are you trying to feign outrage now because these other groups actually come together to call out disrespect of their community by black rappers? :jbhmm:

It’ll never be ok to just wantonly disrespect other “marginalized”(take it how you will :dame:) groups outside of your cultural group, and not get any blow back(pause :dame:). Not in 2021. Maybe back in the days.

Rappers like TIP and DaBaby need to go full pro-black and start checking ppl. Rappers in general and black ppl in general need to start boycotting degenerate rap if they’re so concerned about black on black lyrics.

And they did go after Rock N Roll/Metal too. That's the other Juelzing people do.

"Oh they never go at Rock N Roll like they do with Rap Music"

Of course they did :dwillhuh:

The very first act in the beginning Oprah talks about Guns N Roses (who I didn't know were saying wild shyt til this video). They used to go at Marilyn Manson, Ozzy Osbourne, Kid Rock, Motley Crue and all these other rock acts. We just never paid attention or cared cuz we didn't listen to them or grow up on their music. Rap Music wasn't being singled out, we just paid more attention cuz it felt like they were attacking the black community as a whole.

Ice-t always had a message in his music.
the ending in most of his tales ended with
jail or death.

If people didn't want to hear Gangster rap, then it would have died along time ago.

My gripe about these types of topics is that when people discuss HIPHOP, they only focus on mainstream rap or Gangster rap like those are the only two sub genres within HIPHOP.

However, those two subgenres although the most popular isn't the only type of rap music out, it isn't the end all/be all of HIPHOP.

To this day there are artists who make all types of HIPHOP music. Many or shall I say the majority don't make it to the mainstream outlets. But, aside from that, many artist rap about all types of shyt and many times it has nothing to do with violence, drugs, women and so forth.

Bottom line...

Gangster rap is a guilty pleasure for those who enjoy it. No different from any other vice. If people are against the content of Gangster or street rap, then support artists that rap about more positive things. It's out there!

I don't blame the rappers, because most of them are just puppets and slaves to the industry. I mostly blame the cacs that pulling their strings behind the scenes because they love profiting off black trauma.

It's always cacs making nikkaz do shyt

Sound like we some puppets. Amazing how brehs will talk about being strong and resilient until it comes to holding responsibility for our actions then it's time to deflect to being helpless to cacs.

Rap trends are not made in the industry they are adopted from the streets. Who has the streets buzzing is usually who the industry goes after. Stop deflecting.

All of those people you named called out gangsta rap for political and financial gain, not because they actually gave a fukk.

This is a strawman....

The alphabet people arn't "outraged" over DaBaby's lyrics.

It’s not a strawman, this is the most over used juelzing tactic. It’s been happening even before DaBaby situation. DaBaby situation just brought it back from the dead. Rapper X says something about another group of ppl, group of ppl get mad, then rapper X(or rapper X fans) pulls out the trap card. Same way the alphabet boys aren’t outraged by DaBabys lyrics, the defenders of DaBabys statement aren’t outraged by black on black lyrics and what they perceive as a “double standard” until it’s convenient to pull out the trap card and feign outrage. It’s silly.

Also, regardless if those ppl fought back against gangsta rap for their own political gain, it makes no difference. Ppl were defending gangsta rap no matter who came out against it. That’s another trap card. They only fought against gangsta rap for selfish reasons. And?
