It's about black balled the definition not what you feel it is :umad:

tell that to the OP and the tons of other posters in this thread.

this is the modern hip-hop definition, on a hip-hop board.
just like the term "producer".

but when the industry dont get behind it, it doesnt have its place in history.

if yall don't want me to use blackballed, then give me another term.
otherwise, I'm just gonna assume that yall are just trying to ruin OP's thread.

Here's a link that show some guys discussing blackballing someone:

Do you think that the mason would apply the same masonic principle to their day to day business practices within the industry? Just some food for thought.

about the Em & MGK stuff.

Em is not powerful enough to black ball anyone.. He just exists on his own island protected by Dr. Dre & Jimmy Iovine. Thats part of the reason Em was able to get behind 50 who was black balled by Murder Inc. Murder Inc.'s power didnt touch Em's island, the same way Em cant touch Bad Boy (MGK). He can only stop MGK from what Em controlls, which is Shade 45.
This was a dumb post. Eminem is powerful bc of his connection to iovine and dre. He is an investment that needs protection.

He has issues with artist, he mentions it to Iovine and the marketing dollars start flowing against said artist. Doors start shutting for MGK bc he offended the highest selling rap artist of all time who is friends with arguably the most powerful music exec in the business.

If Eminem himself decided to make the calls and shut out MGK, I have no doubt the doors would be shut. He lets interscope do the dirty work instead of posting ig vids and Twitter rants saying mgk is banned from etc, can't go to etc, will have to see him in the street

If Em' ever left his house. He has the biggest house in all of Detroit or one of the biggest properties there. Some Victorian inspired mansion/compound. He has a village for a house.

On top of what you said Bad Boy and Aftermath were both label mates on Interscope and are in business with Apple both companies having an interest with Iovine so I doubt Iovine would stop both revenue streams for one party to feel better.

I think Iovine likes money too much, so he'd rather Gawdfather and The Game the situation than to bury an artist due to a conflict of interests on one side.

I think so without a doubt. I mean black balling happens and some of the people in the industry are masons so maybe the folks who are masons do connect and decide if someone should be blackballed for the way they were acting. Either that or if someone should actually be approached about joining because they are a good person and they want to let them in the circle.

The term BLACKBALLED is an oxymoron..

No one actually gets BLACKBALLED

they either aren't MARKETABLE anymore

Or fell out with their distributor

And failed to find other outlets or options

No, thats not being black balled.

Once the word gets put out that an artist shouldn't be worked with, they are blackballed.

No matter how marketable an artist may be. If radio is told not to play you or blogs are told not to post you, your marketability holds 0 weight.

If I was some super boss at homedepot and told all the employee there not to serve you or allow you to purchase, you have been blackballed.

Iovine will protect Eminem over MGK any day brehs. Think about it diamond album selling rapper or flop ass single rapper, which asset is more valuable?

Bad Boy is a fukking afterthought for interscope, that was probably done to keep puff brand relevant so he can keep hawking shyt to the "urban" community. MGK was dumb to sign there in the 1st place

Game and fif had to be stopped at the time, it was potentially losing too much money. Game was diminishing the gunit brand and fif was their premier artist at the time.

My point mentioning "see him in the street" was that these rappers waste too much time trying to be hard and then present themselves as businessmen. You are in corporate world now, play by corporate rules and let the label ice your enemy the fukk out. Guess that's the price you pay when your brand is synonymous with image.

n1gga you can't compare a retail store manager denying service to a customer to the politics of the music biz.... :why:

i've worked in the industry (radio and music recording) there are so many ARBITARY DYNAMICS that prevent this from happening....

because what ONE BOSS won't do...another WILL...... :win:

cause when you HOT......you are HOT and SOMEBODY IS GONNA GIVE U AN OPPORTUNITY regardless of some so called "blackballing"....

for example i remember 50 cent always shouting out and giving praise to Stretch Armstrong when he had his HOT 97 show XL RADIO show to be only deejay to have the heart to play his shyt during the Power of a Dollar days...when everybody from Flex to Mr. Cee and Big Kap and Cypha Sounds were SCARED TO TAKE A CHANCE cause they didn't wanna damage thier relationship with Colombia Records at the time which had business with 50 and the various artists he had offended which they had relationships with.......

yet he was able to move beyond that and still get a DEAL after colombia dropped him...and puff passed on him as well as craig kallman from atlantic did as well......

Interscope and Shady records did the deal.......

same with Gucci ...thier was all these rumors that nobody wanted to fukk with him after the jeezy flareup and shooting of Pookie Loc

yet he was able to land a deal with Atlantic records ....simply cause the man had a serious buzz and hit records to give him leverage

You have a valid point, however with 50 he was controversial, so it only made sense that the label with Eminem & Dre pick him up. They lived on an island all there own and all they really had was each other and enough weight to steer the industry.

Damn near the entire industry passed on him. It was a stroke of luck, the interscope boys jumped in. He was still blackballed.

As far as Gucci, he was never blackballed. He was never an amazing talent, he had to build that up. Mostly people said he was garbage and had no longevity (the same way they view Yachty today) then people were scared to work with him.

Keri Hilson, her main plug to a career is via Timbaland who has interest in the Carter household. Tim not gonna mess up that relationhip. If Timbaland doenst go to bat for her, no one will. Therefore she is also blackballed.

Timberland is NOT to blame for this....AND SHE WAS NEVER BLACKBALLED!

as Polo the Don stated whom she has been signed to ...she has been "difficult" in doing business with other artists because of her inflated ego based on the fact she assumes she is more deserving of stardom because she has been a songwriter for years for many of these artists (beyonce, ciara) prior to her own debut as a performer

He continued: “I could never get Keri and Ciara on the same page. Every chance I would get – every time Ciara would want something – I would say, ‘well, you know, you need to do something with Keri. Talk to Keri,’ and she said, ‘nah, I ain’t fooling with that’ and then Keri would say the same thing.”
Polow said he slipped into his big brother role to finally bring about a positive resolution:

Eventually, I talked to Keri, ’cause, you know, we have a good working relationship – she’s signed to my label – I said, ‘yo, you have to stop being retarded and really nip this Ciara thing in the bud.’ I said to the both of them, ‘yo, it’s somebody out there waiting on both of y’all spots,” he said.

she basically "lost her spot" by being petty ....nobody BLACKBALLED her.......

if her singles were that hot...any leak of them would cause somebody to jump at the chance to push her...but it's not happening..

Actually, there was bidding war for 50 cent.

Everybody was offering the same deal, cept Em really like Fif so they gave him a signing bonus of 1 mill ticket..
