...than their counterparts with a stage name in the mainstream. By authentic I mean they tend to speak more about themselves, real life situations and social issues as far as subject matter.

Now of course there are exceptions, this is not a hard and fast rule, but on the whole I think this is true.

Think of Tupac v Biggie. They both spit about materialistic, shallow, violent stuff at times...but who does it more consistently?...who made Keep ya head up, Changes, Dear Mama (NB: LAD is my fav album of all time)

Nas v Jigga

Kanye West
J.Cole
Kendrick Lamar
Joe Budden
Talib Kweli
Charles Hamilton
Lauryn Hill

Psychologically, I think it's easier to just jump into character as ''2 Chainz'' or ''Rick Ross'' rather than spitting fictional coke tales as William Roberts II.

So when you use your real name, you're representing yourself. Telling YOUR story.

Nas vs Jigga = you lost.
Jay-z only talks about himself and is known to keep it very real with his, Nas is not known for keeping it real about himself but instead keeps it real about his break downs and paintings of other people.

A lot more "stupid" rappers like Plies, Waka Flocka flame etc do not use their own names.
Which is the only thing I can confirm as partially true about your statement.

But there is nothing supporting you claim when we look at artists like Common, Scarface, Ice Cube, all of wu-tang all the way to Krs, Guru, Outkast/Big Boi etc..
