They don't necessarily have to be retired or dead but they'll never be the same again at the very least. Their release cadence is too irregular, they've gone insane, or they've mostly just abandoned the rap game.

The old Kanye West (He lost his mother and it drove him insane)

Cyhi the Prynce (Doesn't release enough)

Andre 3000 (Folded under criticism and won't release new rap music) by extension OutKast.

Chamillionaire (Became a venture capitalist and I guess he has a new project but not a normal release)

Ma$e (Not sure what happened here, faked a religious pivot maybe due to a bad contract then somewhat came back but no real new albums)

Joe Budden (Career commercial success failed and pivoted to online gossip)

Jay-Z (We're approaching a decade and no new releases. Probably too big for rap now)

Beanie Sigel (Got shot up, lost a lung and was never the same)

50 Cent (His pride won't let him release new albums because he will never have the sales success he had earlier in his career)

Prodigy and Nipsey. Always been a huge Prodigy fan and there was no one who really sounds and raps like him. Still play him pretty regularly and it was great to hear what they did for the new Mobb album.

Nipsey I can’t even really explain, it’s like the first time I really felt sad about a rapper dying. I was on Nipsey really early and played his music alot and just genuinely liked his insight into business and technology. I don’t really have regrets in life but I regret not hitting up the Marathon store. I was planning to while out that way not long before he died but got busy with other stuff and said I’d hit next time I’m that way then he got killed. It took over a year to even play a Nip song again.

Nipsey, Prodigy and Mac Miller.

All three tremendously impacted my life at different points and as cliche as it sounds, their music really did help me through those difficult periods. Nip and Mac especially because I saw their careers flourish from damn near day one. Nip with Bullets Ain’t Got No Name mixtape, I still remember when my homie brought the tape in the whip and we were banging it that whole summer. Then before you know it, this man is nominated for Best Rap Album. Victory Lap seemed like it was in the making forever and when it finally dropped, it lived up to and surpassed all expectations. The man dropped a timeless classic. Even Mac with his goofy KIDS tape but he was rapping his ASS off as a teenager and with every release, he just kept growing as an artist. FACES to me is one of the most original and creative hip hop albums of the past 25 years. With P… I think we all know how much he touched every one of us on this board. I can’t listen to “You Can Never Feel My Pain” without shedding a tear.

When each of them died, I couldn’t listen to their music for at least two years. Any time a Mobb or P or Mac or Nip record came on, I’d skip it. It just hurt too much knowing we’d never get any original music from them again because their lives were cut short. You don’t realize how much these artists really mean to you and connect with you on a deeper level.

Nipsey - He was reaching his Zenith when he passed. My brother has a credit on Victory Lap, dope to open up the liner notes and see ya brother's name
Sean P - just a funny dude full of character
Little Brother (trio) - not even music, just sucks them 3 brothers ain't on speaking terms. They influenced ya boy HEAVILY
Pimp C - he probably would've been canceled in today's era, but i wonder what kinda music him and Bun would be making in their 50s

For me its only prodigy who's presence is missed like that

Even after all the classics and decades of music I still feel he had so much left to offer.

It was a familiar voice who rapped a lot of shyt you could relate to and stayed relevant content wise. In the era where we seeing "conspiracy" get blown wide open he would have had some dope tracks about it.

It would have also been dope seeing him spit over the ALC run we seeing right now.
