Mind you some of these artist are still successful but they never reached their full potential or clipped their wings early on.

Lupe Fiasco should have occupied the space that Kendrick Lamar does and he walked so Lamar could run. I get that Lupe isn't half the songwriter that Lamar is but it still feels like he could have occupied that space.

Canibus pre-Can-I-Bus was supposed to be the chosen one. That album derailed his career and he eventually went in a different direction and faded away. He's up there. I can't recall a hyped up run like his other than maybe DMX who actually delivered on his hype.

Ma$e should have been a much bigger deal than he ended up. Thanks Puff.

I feel like Chamillionaire is in that camp with Ma$e. The talent is there. Label politics destroyed his career. I guess he's in a better place as a venture capitalist now.

Andre 3000 and by extension OutKast should have had a much longer career than what we ended up with. It's clear now his heart was never truly in it and once he reached a level of success that he didn't need rap he divorced it. It's a shame Big Boi didn't just link up with Killer Mike and form a duo (instead of RTJ or even a trio with El-P as the producer) or take Big Grams more serious.

Joe Budden. His final album was his best work to me and he was turning a corner then just abandoned it all for some online gossip shit. I'll never understand it. Why couldn't he do both?

Calling OutKast a failure in any sense is insane.
Not that the argument needs to be made but they still outstream almost all their contemporaries, they are always brought up in GOAT lists and Andre sold ridiculous amounts of tickets for people to watch him play the flute almost entirely because that’s how much people revere him.

They have over 2 and a half lost decades and if we're being honest will never release anything as a group again. Basically the group broke up and lied about it until people stopped caring and don't talk about it anymore. Their last real album together was Stankonia in 2000. Nobody died like say Biggie or Jimmy Hendrix it just collapsed.

Not saying they didn't have a successful run when it was going but let's not pretend this was the desirable outcome. Is there any fan of the group that can honestly say they aren't disappointed with how things turned out?

I hate saying it cuz i still listen to him regularly, but def Lloyd banks. Also, Juelz Santana. If you would've told me during the peak of dip set that Jim Jones was going to have more successful solo career I would've laughed at you.

Jay Elec - mad hype / buzz for an album after dropping exhibit a, c, mixtapes, loosies, verses...waits for years (and a pandemic) to finally release a debut album with Hov all over it, and leaks/releases his "real" debut a little after...but too little too late for both....now he's doing accapellas of his songs and trying to fight fans at his show

I think Lloyd Banks was doomed to be at best another Fabolous. He had some great punchlines but I never felt like there was anything else there and he ended up hanging his hat on them.

Maybe Cassidy is in that same lane.

yeah, Ive never seen a conscious rapper (outside the 80's) get so much attention where that they were ready to elevate him in the mainstream like that.

but based on his unreleased shyt, he got a great catalogue.

Beanie Sigel is at the very top of the list for me. He had everything given to him on a silver platter but couldn’t leave the streets alone. He was the total package and could have ended up being one of the goats
Yeah when he lost a lung or whatever that was it for him. He just don't sound right. I think he's using AI to try and restore his sound.
I gotta go with Adonnis :troll:
If he stopped singing so much he'd be great.
