I don't even think I listened to the beats until a year later, they were dark, moody, and were a blur. But he was killing it on every track.

Sample issues screwed up the 2nd album. Still can't figure out how he blew a Dre feature on such a sub par track. And he even got emo, maybe because Pac/B.I.G. just got murdered, but the emo stuff works better when he was pissed like on Van Gogh.

I think the Golden State Project would have really helped Ras Kass.

Xzibit pretty much took Ras Kass turn.

Album is in my personal top 3, Ras is my 2nd favorite MC ever, and even I cant see the them giving this a perfect rating in comparison to the albums out at the time. Source wasnt feeling Ras like that, and he wasnt really on the radar in the mainstream out on the East.

I love the beats on the album for the songs themselves. They fit the mood of the tracks. Album would have been even iller if he put some of his unreleased Western Hemisfear era tracks on it. I used to have his demo on mp3.

I dont have the liner notes in front of me, but I remember Voodoo and Bird, both of whom were in Western Hemisfear before they broke up did the bulk of the production. Diamond D wasnt on the album, that track was a remix. Ras, if I remember correctly might have co-produced a track or two, which usually means he had creative input on the beat or found the sample, nothing technical.

I remember reading an interview when the album dropped of Ras explaining that "If.....then" was an example of people not realizing the creative process of his music cuz they intentionally flipped the beat some type of way that makes it sound off beat but mesh with the lyrics and how the song could never be remixed as a result because the vocals would be off.
