They were right tho. His heart was never really in football

He had a good career. You don't have to play 15 years and leave broken to be a "real" football player.

I understand the dude. All these couch potatoes sitting at home having heart attacks at 40 want to tell an elite athlete that he's not working hard enough in the offseason. Fans (and you know which ones) act like they OWN players just because someone is on the team they bought a jersey for. The same fans want you to play on a torn ACL because fi you don't and you sit on the bench joking with a teammate, that must mean you don't care enough like they do...to get pass-out drunk while yelling for 3 hours a week.

He retired at 26 tho. I think he tore his acl one year and dislocated his shoulder the next so we're talking 4-5 years. Thats not a good career.

Edit:
It's sounds like I'm being insensitive. I have a huge amount of respect for Rashard being a scholar athelete. I think it's great for our youth to see a guy who has intellectual interests outside of this barbarian sport. HOWEVA.. If I'm drafting a guy, I want somebody who lives the sport.. borderline obsessed with being great. Those players usually have long, productive careers and keep YOU employed as a general manager/coach/vp

The typical player plays about 3 years. Most "NFL" players are camp bodies, draft washouts, or guys who maybe make a squad a year or two and bounce around. You're so focused on the stars you don't see all the rest of the guys who don't make it. Mendy was a legit starter and a quality player. His career probably puts him in the top 10% of typical players.

absolutely agree. this stuff is entertainment. At the end of the day I don't understand how people lose sleep over this stuff.

And :salute:to Mendenhall for getting his paper and getting out with his brain intact.

who was the author, Malcolm Gladwell, who called football a moral abomination not too long ago?
