God-tier anime thanks to the fluid animation; a post-WWIII world that looks like it’s in a purgatory between utopia and dystopia; brilliant VA even in the English version; tense action scenes where you’re always worried if one of Section 9 will finna get popped one episode; the cyber-noir crime thriller vibes; the amazing soundtrack including the intro and endings that bring me hella nostalgia; and an engaging albeit VERY convoluted story.
And I mean it when I say convoluted. When it comes to that, GITS: SAC is Kingdom Hearts status story-wise lol. Even to this day as an adult, sometimes I still have trouble keeping up with what the hell is going on with the story and what certain things are including many of the foreshadowings that are ever-present throughout the plot.
Other than that tho, GITS: SAC is truly one of the most iconic anime of all time and is personally my most favorite of what I would like to call “realism anime”. That type of anime, from my own definition, is essentially centered around real life scenarios and events as well as humanly accurate limitations with some hidden messages, existential questioning of self and life, and philosophical influences within the anime....Also helps that a decent amount of “realism anime” can have their serious and dark moments, in addition to not being all bubbly and annoying over the top like a lot of anime is stereotypically categorized as here in the West nowadays. GITS is the golden child for “realism anime” for that reason and I truly love it for that. Definitely an anime that’s aged like fine wine since its original inception as a franchise back in the mid-90’s. It deserves nothing short of an 8 IMO.
