It must be an age thing or they are really anime anime fans because if you ask a majority of black people what’s the greatest anime they saying dbz off rip, unless they really into anime.
Dbz isn’t the greatest story wise, but the show itself and what it makes you feel makes up for that, plus most of these anime’s copy everything from dbz, I haven’t seen anything really done before in Z.

I believe the anime writer got sick and never came back. The manga still continued but there was no animation studio to pick it up.Cool anime but should had been longer

DBZ as a pre-teen/teenager is probably the greatest anime that ever lived. Then you get to your 20s and see all the other animes out there and realize that Goku was dropping a deuce for 5 episodes before the 1st punch was swung from anybody. Power levels of WTF going on (let me know if you saw what I did there). Also the
moment is when you realize that no one attacked and just did this 
for 5 episodes.

the more you watch the more critical you are. DBZ has lots of holes and some of its peers are more tightly written with better character development. Like Yu Yu Hakusho.
then if you watch multiple genres outside of just shounen action drama, and don't mind watching pre 2000s animation, you'll find an endless amount of series that execute better than DBZ did in a fraction of the time but just didn't get the push in the West to be as popular.

Yes that shyt was trash and I didn’t like it as a kid, but I don’t feel like other shows are better, lol like I don’t care how good the story is to me, it’s not better than Z.
If I had to pick an anime to watch again from the beginning it’s gonna be Z.
I’ve seen many anime’s as a kid, while good, they never made me feel the same way as Z felt and they never got my attention like Z.
Plus usual anime’s are very very emotional and go over board with weird gore shyt sometimes.
It’s just more enjoyable as a whole to me as a show in any genre.
Yeah they story wasn’t the best, but the show was the most enjoyable out of any show that I’ve seen.

Dudes think just because a story is simple doesn't mean it's good. That's precisely what makes DBZ SO GREAT. It's got something for everyone whether you old or young.
The only reason DB has so many plot holes is because of the length of the series. It was never intended to go this long. But fans love it so much it keeps going. Let one of your favorite anime keeping going for 30 years and see how much the quality fluctuates
