that snow last month had me reconsidering living here... Never lived in a city that can't handle snow like this. Roads were shyt for like 2 weeks, snow plows didn't do anything...whole neighborhoods frozen over...
Can I introduce you to the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex...? Their solution to getting the roads back to drivability is literally, "just let the Lord take care of it with the sun."

I'm a huge fan of Pittsburgh, love the city but I've been told I wouldn't love it as much if I ever lived there.
I've never met a transplant who moved to Pittsburgh have anything good to say about it. I was just there at the beginning of the week. Still a visually cool ass city to me. IDK about living there, especially after spending the last few days in Philly. The sistas :banderas:

My bad bro! 🤣

So a year here, how would you compare it to Columbus and Pittsburgh, far as pros/cons, City life, opportunities? I know Philly is home, do you prefer any of these cities over Philly, and how would you rank them among each other? What brought you to Nashville anyway?

I'm a huge fan of Pittsburgh, love the city but I've been told I wouldn't love it as much if I ever lived there. I also love Nashville and a lifelong local tonight told me, "it's aiight here, ain't nothing special bout Nashville" 🤣...
Columbus pros: affordable as hell, easy to navigate, nice suburbs, populated but doesn’t feel overcrowded, decent mix of young black professionals
Columbus cons: boring, not much to do, nothing really distinct about it

Pittsburgh pros: great scenery, very affordable, lots of events throughout the year, good schools/ college atmosphere (Pitt, Duquesne, Carnegie Mellon, Robert Morris), tech savvy, good people

Pittsburgh cons: bad dating scene ( it’s like everyone is settled down by their mid 20s), food is meh (some people like it, I didn’t), not very diverse.
There’s a good amount on black people, but I don’t know how to describe it… just fukked up livin situation for blacks, not forward thinking…

Nashville - party town, but I got sick of that shyt quick. I’m 34 now and just can’t do that shyt all the time :pachaha:

Great entertainment city, great food and restaurant scene, a lot more diverse than I
expected, lots of schools here
Atlanta 4 hours away, Memphis 2 hours, Huntsville 90 mins, Chattanooga 2 hours…

OVERCROWDED!, it’s like the city wasn’t built to handle all this influx of people,
poor infrastructure, roads look like shyt.
A lot of the locals hate all these people moving in…

Rent is too damn high for a southern city (no offense)- I’m paying twice what I was in Pitt for less space
Nashville is cool, but I’m giving it 2 more years tops, then I’m out of here…

Philadelphia and parts of south Jersey will always be home, but I have no plans of moving back. I’m cool just visiting a few times a year…

Dope, appreciate the feedback!

I almost moved here to Nashville in 2012, when I was living in Western New York. Girl I was seeing at the time, her family is from about two hours north in Kentucky, and she wanted to come south, but I told her I wasn't with Kentucky. We settled on here, made plans and everything, then the relationship broke down. She did end up moving to Kentucky for a few years though before heading back to NY...

Also I had no idea you and I were the same age 😂 always thought you were older, I'll be 35 in June...

Always interesting to get people who have been around a bit, get your feedback. The worldview is generally different from those who spend their entire lives in one place...

Nashville was presented as an option to me by my company last year, as in od have to move here for a year in order to jump forward up the ladder. Not yet sold on the move, because I like the city, but it's not on my radar to move to. I'm considering it but not sold on the move at this point in time...

For years I felt how you felt in never going back to California, but I spent several trips back in Sacramento between October and December, for the first time in 5 years to even visit, I'm ready to go back. But for me it wouldn't be a permanent move, I'm planning on how I can live there part of the year, because my kids are out here (in NC), and I do like Raleigh alot, so I'm not planning on permanently leaving at this point...

What you said echoes what I've heard about Pittsburgh living for black people, everybody says I wouldn't like it if I lived there 😂 always hear really good things about Columbus, never been buy would love to go. Been to Cleveland which I thought was cool but I wouldn't live there...

Appreciate the feedback, g!

Swetts near Fisk stole my heart :wow:

Been thinking about going back for some time now. The city showed me and my father a fantastic time. Went to see a Titans game they won against the Raiders then went to Uncle Nearest in Shelbyville for my dads 70th. He had the biggest eat shyt grin on his face like :steviej: since it’s his favorite brand on top of all the food we had.

That one black owned hot chicken place in the mall we ate at was mad overrated, they had them in Nissan Stadium too just can’t remember what the name of it was, maybe Johnson’s? :manny:

The African American Museum of Music :mjcry: had a blast there and def have to go back since I didn’t have enough time to fully enjoy the place.

The concept of a "white" city is very interesting here...
It's definitely not a true "white city" but it's reputation as a white city is kinda deserved...

For one thing Nashville just historically never marketed its black history and black community the way other cities did (like Memphis and many others). This is on the leadership and civic organizations of Nashville, they marketed it as White Paradise...

Also, when you're here, you see how it gets that rap. There's alot of white people here. It is more diverse than you might assume but there are southern cities more diverse than Nashville. There's white people everywhere, even when you around black people there's a ton of white people...

I think overall its still a really good city for black people, though!

Knoxville is dope, too!
I got an art show in the spring/summer in Nashville. Heard lots of money there too
Whole lotta money here!

Can you give specifics on what bothers you about Nashville?
I’m admittedly homesick, so take that for it’s worth, and I’d love to be proven wrong, but coming from the D.C. area, it’s been a hard adjustment because I can’t even find a good handful of spots I can go to either after work or on the weekends and meet a vast assortment of women. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong places, but even people that live here tell me that I’ve been spoiled and I need to get over the fact that Nashville isn’t the D.C. area.

That’s the main thing and I could name other things but it ultimately just comes down to demographics. I’m just used to seeing black people everywhere, all the time and that ain’t what it is here.

Yeah the actual "city of Nashville" area is only 22% black, 61% white, it's a big difference from DC...

Even though Nashville isn't truly a "white" city, it's easy to see how it's gotten that reputation...

Ultimately I say if you wanna go home, go home. If you choose to stay, embrace Nashville for what it is instead of lamenting what it isn't. It's a cool city, I personally think the Carolina cities are cooler, but try to find the good in Nashville!
