My most favorite American city, I always have a good time up there. The brehs may be rough around the edges but they can be cool as shyt at the same time. I love the Philly blaccent (think Freeway/Dark Lo/Umar Johnson/B. Siegel/Eve/Jill Scott/Jazmine Sullivan for Black folks) and the white accent isn’t bad either. Philly slang is one of the best East Coast slang and they got one of the best music scenes in the country (strong battle rap and underground rap presence, birthplace of Disco, originator of Neo Soul, legendary DJ culture and history, underrated street dance culture, contributions to New Jack Swing, etc.). Outside of a couple of acts like Lil Uzi, most Philly rappers don’t be on no weirdo gimmicky goofy shyt that the mainstream enjoys. Strong professional and street boxing presence. Blessed Da Culture with Will Smith as well.
Definitely the most quintessential East Coast/American city...I love how it’s laid out, how it functions as a City of Neighborhoods with downtown (Center City) being a focal point in addition to University City playing “second fiddle” and the surrounding neighborhoods still functioning as their own thing with their own character and vibe. It’s got a robust public transit system (subway, light rail, trolley, bus, and I think water taxis). It has a very gritty, almost Gotham City look to it that I really enjoy. A very walkable city in almost any part of it. The abundance of street art is a major plus. I love how despite Philly being a diverse city, it gives off a vibe that’s borderline Chocolate City since it be Black ppl in almost every section of it. And it’s something about Philly that constantly reminds me of the city that the show Hey Arnold takes place in. The food is the fukking bomb and can be had at some very good prices as well as the drinks. And on top of that, Philly is one of the best sports towns in the country. It also got significant Black history as well.
Only reason I didn’t score it higher is because the nightlife is surprisingly meh for a city of its size.
Eagles fans
And learning about what the Philly gov’t did to their own citizens during their standoff with MOVE out in West Philly really rubbed me the wrong way.
Outside of those three tho, it’s a pretty dope ass city.
