I lived in Central/Western NY for half a decade. Unless you are in school there, you are better off living in Rochester, at least there is some Black middle class and a much better social scene IMHO. Syracuse is cold, 100+ inches of snow per year, a crappy and continually declining job market with major employers having left (all of Upstate NY is like this really), a relatively poor Black community with unfortunately high crime for such a small town and a lot of prejudice. Buffalo is kind of the same but bigger.

Don't get me wrong, there are Black people you can hang with in Syracuse but not enough to make it a 'must go' destination if you have choices.

I don't know what it is, but Upstate NY has a certain charm to it. My favorite Upstate NY city is Rochester by far

I visited Syracuse plenty of times, it was cool. Had hoods like everywhere else. Had a big ass mall that was poppin. Marlon Wayans was supposed to come a week after I visited, I was tight :russ::mjcry:

All Syracuse seems to have is Syracuse U. And the fact that some of their teams play in a dome that is not air-conditioned despite being named after an air-conditioning company gives me the :hubie:

I'll give them a five on the strength of the university. That's it.

Cuse is my spot, but yall know by now I'm biased for Upstate NY lol...

Dope nightlife for such a small city, good looking women. Economy is trash though, and nah there isn't a large black middle class, most blacks are poor but the same is true of Buffalo and Rochester and Albany...

You mean college girls/transplants or locals? I wasn't super impressed with the talent outside of areas close to schools (Cuse, U of Rochester, UB, etc.) Maybe I didn't spend enough time in 'Cuse but even though I also like Upstate NY overall, I still felt I saw more hot chicks in 30 minutes in NYC/DC (even accounting for more people) than I did in a couple months of Upstate.

Mostly around SU, area they call The Hill is a fukking magnet. The Dominicans and Arab girls in Cuse have an extra sexiness to them for some reason lol....

It isn't "bad" it is just not my pick if you had to choose in Upstate NY. Maybe I am thinking of a "living" perspective rather than visiting or hanging out. As far as living in Upstate I prefer Rochester since the weather is milder, it is a bit bigger, and the (rapidly fading) influence of Kodak and Xerox made it a big mix of young professionals, cool events, and I liked the Black community there. Also it is only 3 hours drive from downtown Tortonto if you get bored. It has changed a lot since I was there before the 2010s though. Large company closings and layoffs affected the young professional crowd though there are still many strong mid-sized companies (like in optics) and the universities.

Maybe if I lived in Syracuse I would have felt differently but none of the brehs I knew there were like "come on over". Upstate also has a lot of mid-size or smaller cities like Geneva, Corning, and the Albany area which are interesting as well.
