East Side!
I actually liked SLC...granted, we would only visit for weekends at the most, and they don't sell liquor on Sunday's an it's white people every where. But on some winter get away shyt, it's aight. Laid back and quiet, and would always get shown love whenever we went. Used to bag the air force joints at Hill AFB, good times.

Its not bad but its basically just another suburban sprawl cookie cutter city. My bestie lives there so I always enjoy my time there. I'm told the air pollution is horrible. Clusters of kids with developmental disabilities. Why a black non Mormon would live there, I don't know. The African blacks don't make eye contact.

I've lived here with my girlfriend for 18 months now because we got a good gig out of college at a top tier financial institution.

Here's our short review
If visiting, it's a 1/10.
If living, it's a 5/10.
Overall its a 4 out of 10.

Long review:

Cost of living: 7/10, you can find parking and housing here cheaper than in NYC, Miami, and other big metro cities. But its best capabilities if you live outside of Salt Lake, in Sandy or Draper you can get a 2 bedroom apartment with the works (gym, personal garage, nice space) for $1500 total.

Food: 2/10. No soul food, terrible BBQ, full of sandwich shops, burger shops, Soda stores, Hawaiian BBQ. But full of healthy eating places which is nice. Ultimately it can be challenging finding good takeout. We'll usually eat In-N-Out, Hub and Spoke, Pie Pizzeria. Most food places closed on Su

Entertainment: 5/10, If you love outdoor activities like skiing, rock climbing, mountain biking then there are tons of things to do. Utah Jazz are great to go see for the low ($50 a ticket during playoffs) and each winter there is the Sundance Film Festival. However, if you come here randomly, you will not find anything to do or go see. You'll get your occasional concerts like Kanye did his Sunday Service here, Deon Cole had a comedy show the same day, Chappelle did a standup special in Sept. Nas, Snoop, Cole came here separately in the past year. But it can be empty most months. Best part of entertainment is going to Vegas (driving is 6 hours, flying is 45 mins for $200). No nightclubs only bars with dance floors. And you WILL run into coworkers at those places because the city is so small.

Demographic/People - 1/10. Nice people with hidden racism of course. Full of white Mormons. Black people are here but its like semi-rare to see any blacks (especially African Americans). You'll mostly run into Hispanics/Latinos and Pacific Islanders. The Mormons dominates the way the city works. For example, Target couldn't sell alcohol on the day of Holidays like Thanksgiving. Strippers cannot get nude and alcohol is banned from strip clubs terms of alcohol laws, Sunday most things are closed or close early. Tons of kids running around and terrible parenting. Also, people really can't drive here. It feels like there's always a 3-car accident on I-80.

Crime - 8/10. Other than property crime, violence / murder rates are extremely low and I've never felt threatened here. However, last year there was a mall shooting and a few years back a high school shooting too.

Jobs - 7/10. Plenty of jobs, had my brother-in-law stay with us for a little and he lost and found several jobs in a 1 month time span. There could be better exposure to top companies here but there are a few here like Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley and Adobe.

All in all, Salt Lake City isn't reality to life. White people live in their own uncultured bubble that is distance from the rest of the country. I would NEVER raise a child here as a black person or recommend others to live here beyond a brief stint. The folks here are the type of people to ask if Baltimore (where I'm from) is really like The Wire or if its the same as the 2015 riots. Actually, had a coworker that did not know what the riot was about but remembers watching the videos and reading news reports. :stopitslime: The entertainment here is lackluster at best and if not for Vegas being so close would be even more of a disaster. If you a breh/sis looking for an interracial life, love outdoors, don't mind missing great food then this place is for you. For the most part its clean, almost crime-free, and a beautiful looking city because of the mountains.
