Yesterday we looked at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) and gave them an average rating of 6.7.

Today we cover a small HBCU, less than 800 students, but with a lot of history. Rust College, originally Shaw University, was one of the first HBCUs established by Methodists and the Freedman's Aid Society in 1867. It is also one of the oldest colleges in Mississippi. In the small town of Holly Springs, it has produced most prominently, Ida B Wells. While it is small it has made major moves and retained top leadership to help cement its future.

In 2020, it hired former San Antonio mayor, , as its president and has tripled its endowment in the last three years.

Messed with a girl who went there. One of the most trifling money hungry broads I’ve met in my life.

That’s all.

So i originally got accepted to rust and was going to check the school out and me and moms was going to take a train…. Well we missed the train ( part of me was glad, i just had a feeling, i honestly wanted to go to this school in Little Rock i forget the name but moms was like nope) long story short a friend of the family went to Stillman and suggested we check them out, he bought our airline tickets, and we flew down the next day toured campus and loved it i filled an app got accepted and chose them

I know rust cost of attendance back when i looked into going was cheap af

Wonder what life would have been like for a young Droptop had i went

My mentor and lead engineer at my first job in the Sipp went to Rust. He played baseball for them, before eventually transferring to Mississippi State to finish his degree. One of the most solid men I know. Guided a young AggieLean, and always had my back. Took me under his wing. Any mistakes I made, he’d stand up for me, but in private would let me know the f*ck up can’t happen again, and teach me so I wouldn’t make it again.

He didn’t say too much about the school, and I don’t know too much about them, outside of the school being in Misssissippi. I imagine most of the out of state students come from Tennessee, with a very small few probably coming from Chicago.

I had a family friend who was on the board at Rust. He told me I could had gotten a full ride to the school if I wanted to. Sometimes I wonder what would had happen if I had said yes, but in the grand schemes of things, I made the right decision.
