I have been thinking about this series for a while so I am deciding to kick it off for 2023. This is the announcement of the official Rate this HBCU thread inspired by the Rate this City and Rate this Girl threads of the past. We will attempt to go through all of the 101 active HBCUs over the next six months with about 3-4 polls per week. I will organize it such that we will alternate between large and well-known HBCUs and lesser known ones. Each post will give basic data and pictures as well as discuss several famous alumni.
Granted I am concerned we may not get feedback for some of the smaller ones given the scope of the Coli but we can definitely try.
I am going to work on the four to kick-off this week: NC A&T, Huston-Tillotson, Hampton, and Johnson C. Smith. Below are the basic data I want to include so feel free to recommend other data you think are essential to incorporate. Feedback is essential.
Also, don't forget the official HBCU thread here
Basic data:
School name and city, state
Enrollment and percent Black enrollment
4-yr and 6-yr graduation rates
Male/Female percentages
Tuition
Endowment
Athletic Conference
Pictures: key campus buildings, mascot, marching band/cheerleaders
Famous alumni (3-5 most famous)
Rules:
1. Thecoli will be rating most of the 101 Historically Black Colleges and Universities during the first half of 2023.
2. You can rate the HBCU on several factors including academics, the administration, school experience, athletics, post-grad success, and the "talent"
3. You do not have to be an alum/alumna or have attended the HBCU to vote
3. You can rate each HBCU anywhere on a scale of 1-10.
4. The results of the poll will be displayed publicly.
6. This is not a scientific poll, don't take a high or low rating of a HBCU as the full measure of the "worth" of the school, whether someone should attend, etc.
7. The polls will be open for 96 hours
8. Rep and dap as many people as you like and don’t forget to 5 star this thread.
