And like I said if people did care that much they would have tuned back in don't you think? Thats just my opinion... but you had folks on here talkin bout he was one of the GOATS but do you think if this was

Rock
HBK
Bret Hart
Hogan
Flair
Austin

This would have happened? shyt I hate HHH but people would have stuck around or tuned back in to watch... but that's my personal opinion.

To be fair back in October they advertised Austin on Raw on the day and that was his first appearance in Raw in 4 years and it didnt do anything in the ratings. We've seen HBK, Hogan, Flair show up on low rating shows and as I mentioned, although the episode The Rock appeared a couple of weeks back on a strong ep oddly enough the 2nd hour did the usual dip rather than spike.

I'm not saying in regards to make DB look less bad, I'm saying that generally speaking there's a reason why Raw fell from 10 million to 3-4 million in 15 years and you aint gonna get an above average number nowadays no matter who you put unless its there's weeks to a build and payoff.

The whole thread wrapped up in one comment, but bolded really sums it up. Too much scattershot and repetitive booking, with little payoff is the problem.

I really don't put this on DB, as his appearance was announced very late, and we'd already knew why he was coming back soon after. Had it been rumored that he'd appear when the show came back to Seattle a month in advance or something (or as soon as the writing was on the wall with retirement), I think it would've gotten very good numbers. Just my take.

Michaels and Flair had much higher ratings for their retirement speeches. I don't think Bryan had the connection with the casual fans that people think he did.

I didn't think Bryan's speech was all that great. I expected to feel sadder. He seemed a little too happy to be forced to retire young and losing out on millions in potential earnings. When he choked up, it felt awkward. It'll feel sadder in retrospect years from now.

They still went to 11 back then. I thought Raw was tremendous until the speech. Just being honest. He spent FOREVER getting the words out. Kind of obnoxious really.

He didn't need to get the words out. The ovation spoke for himself and Shawn didn't get that and at this point? Never will. I have no idea how anyone would dare compare those dark 2010 times to what we saw on Monday.

Shawn got just as big of an ovation and nearly doubled Bryan's Neilsen rating. All while going out on his own will, on his own terms.

Let's say you're right. What about the ratings though?
That's cool. But make no mistake about it..wrestling took a BIG HIT Monday Night and we are a long way from seeing anything close to a recovery anytime soon. There was something going on with Cesaro before he left television and I don't think that's going anywhere soon but we'll see. You don't find those kind of connections with crowds out of nowhere. Fans kind of laughed at Ambrose trying to fight Lesnar and talking hard. When Heyman put over Lesnar and tried to use Bryan as a name to put Face Lesnar and Suplex City over? Crowd booed his ass out of the arena. He's just a different level.
