Definitely get you guys points about institutional racism in employment which is deplorable, and like I said earlier, its not the childs fault what their parents choose to name them. My apologies if this hit close to home for anyone. I just wanna be clear though, are we fighting for the rights of these kids, already birthed into this world? Or are we fighting for the right to continue the practice of creating names like Sokojuwanna and La'Derrick? Because at some point, whether we deem it racist or not, there's a clear distinction between names with no meaning and names like Cherry Blossom and Helicopter Man. White people are always gonna be racist and discriminatory in hiring practices. Hell I've seen the opposite where my company DID hire someone based on their name and knowing they were black to a high level executive position as part of an Affirmative Action initiative and set that person up for failure.

I get it, you should be able to name your child whatever you want and it should not impact them in an institutional manner. But to counter that, a name should have meaning. You're bringing a child into the world and your first reward is the ability to instill a sense of pride in them by giving them a name. Adding La' as a prefix to a boys name is feminine as fukk. Maybe the child makes it through life unscathed, perhaps the child develops a sense of pride from being unique. That's cool, but more often or not these parents just think it sounds cool, trust me I know, I got a lot of these type names in my family, lol. I love it when I see a nikka with a fukked off name make it in this world, why, because I know they had to work for it, so don't get me wrong. Question, any of you guys I quoted name your kid a name you totally created in your head that has no etymology? And what do you consider important when naming a child? This is a hot topic for me, my wife is pregnant with our 4th, our first girl and I keep having to tell family members to chill with some of the name suggestions because this is something I take seriously.
