In Ray's defense, he brutally murdered two people and it wasn't over race. So he probably thinks everybody goes through the same thought process that he did before they take a life.
He's just speaking from his own life experience.
and here is ray lewis supporting your dad's words:My dad called me and talked about it yesterday.
He told me that Ray Lewis was a lost kid, he was like he sees kids like him everyday who given up on thinking and acting rationally because they think they are christians. (My dad is a preacher by the way). He was like he gives black christians a bad name because mentally he simply isn't there, he is a man who is incapable of thinking rationally and everything to him is just a prophecy from the bible, not actions that men take and make everyday.
I was like damn pops, thats rough coming from you.

Listening to this, Ray is definitely misguided, however he does bring to light an interesting perspective that we don't often discuss related to these killings. They are definitely "racially motivated", but legally these shootings should be classified as hate crimes and prosecuted as such, this is where we often fail. In my experience, systemic racism isn't overt, or what you see, its more technical than that. White supremacy has more to do with keeping you ALIVE (or slowly dying) and DISENFRANCHISED, killing your spirit but not actually killing you. White supremacy wants your tax dollars, your buying power, your spirit. Hell systemic racism thrives way more with you in JAIL/PRISON than with you DEAD. Sure part of that is killing some of us to instill fear or make examples, but even back to slavery a slavemaster would kill a white man that tried to kill one of his slaves cuz thats taking money out of his pocket. Lynchings were hate crimes just like these shootings are today, problem is we've always lost our legal battles because we focus more on the racial component, thing is, there's no law against being racist. As we fight these battles, we have to remember that these white folks that have all of this hatred, fear and ignorance built up in their hearts were taught that. Systemic Racism is about money and power, that game is more about Exploitation; Hatred is about fear and ignorance. I like Tariq's term "race soldier" cuz that more defines these ignorant, hate-filled rednecks than the word "racist". Cuz they're just doing what they've been taught, but there's really nothing for them to gain, thats why its ignorance. Systemic racists and white supremacists on the other hand operate behind closed doors, they make policies, they deal in exploitation and disenfranchisement and we never really connect the dots because the structure is so much more complex than what we see and call "racist". Don't get me wrong, a LOT of these muthafukkas are indeed racists, but we gotta chase the money trail past those individuals that are carrying out orders like good soldiers if we wanna continue to take that angle.

I get your point brother, and I'm not caping for Ray, I just enjoy good progressive dialogue, even if it were started by someone as deplorable as Ray. My point is, we get no where when we shoot for the lowest common denominator when dealing with racism which is why our legal system fails us so much in that aspect (among many other areas it fails us!). Redneck cops, ignorant cops, fearful cops, hate-filled cops contrary to popular belief do not promote systemic racism as much as we tend to believe. These fukkers typically gain nothing, even if they are (which in most accounts they are) motivated by race. Why do we always stop there? Who gains the most from systemic racism? Policy makers, CEO's, Religious sects, land developers, etc. How do they do it? By pandering to the ignorance, hatred and fear of the majority which is white people. You just said it yourself when you mentioned administrative sentencing. What usually happens is we more worried about the people putting the cuffs on us than the people writing the laws, receiving the grants, land, and per-inmate funding to keep us locked up. As sad as it is, the ones shooting us are costing the real racists 50-75k per body, per year to lock us up.Stop.
Ray isn't talking about hate crime, this dumb motherfukker is saying hate as if he is saying something profound as if most murders aren't committed because one of the parties hated or did not value the life of the victim.
lynchings, murders, and etc are crimes period. The hate crime designation is fukking worthless, and like most things whites throw around at blacks , it was used to increase sentencing on black americans more than any other group. So stop caping for dumb ass administrative sentencing bullshyt designed to make you feel better, but which do nothing in actuality but allow the state to fukk us over even more. they arresting black americans for hate crimes against other blacks because someone said nikka before they did it. Think this shyt through.
