I still don't understand why these dudes wait until the last second to shoot, trying to get the storybook ending.

Shoot it earlier and maybe your team gets an offensive put back or something.

Last year, it was Melo "waiting" until six seconds left to take try to get off his shot against the Celts. This time, it was Kobe waiting until 7 seconds left to try to drive it but got fouled. He cost the Lakers extra time, forcing that 0.3 seconds left in the game where they could have tied it.
