They'd just call unnecessary roughness....we all know that....

I have no problem with. I'll take a couple of unnecessary roughness calls if that's what it takes to send a message. At some point the other team will have to stop running the read option if there QB is getting pancaked every time and risking injury.

Read options just like any other gimmick that comes around, defenses prepare for it and it eventually gets phased out or severely marginalized after a few years

Then why hasn't that happened in college football? it's become more prevalent than ever now

more and more QB's are dual threat types, and they finally got a scheme where it takes advantage of their abilities..... it was only a matter of time before the NFL started to implement this

We ran this shyt back in 2006. Broke records on Tampa Bay with over 300 rushing yards. By midseason it wasn't working that much anymore. Now its back and it won't be as effective as last season.

read options are not a gimmick

however it is dangerous for qbs as you get hit more, same with running backs
And wide receivers and tight ends. Having a wack offensive line is more dangerous than being a read-option QB. Kevin Kolb probably took more hits than Wilson and Kaepernick combined.

If I was a NFL defensive coordinator I would just tell my defense not to worry about the runner and go straight for the QB every time and make the other team think twice about running the read option.
Yea but that shyt only work for QBs who can't read defenses though....

It creates one on one match ups it's not going anywhere.

People who say it'll be phased out were the same ones saying you have to run to win football games, and the spread wont work in the NFLNFL

I agree, but you forgot one tiny issue....

one of the fundamental reasons of why it works, is cause it forces defenders to play fundamentally sound football instead of just playing off instinct and attempting to run 100 miles an hour at one player.

Vick is the reason that the whole DVD option thing didn't work, he didn't care to work at his craft at all....Russel,Kaep and RG3 are light years better than him at running that type of attack.

The read option will work fine for years to come...

..As long as your QB is young.

The true test will be taking these read option QB's and turning them into pocket passers, to pro long there careers. If you want to play into your late 30's early 40's you have to be a pocket passer IMHO.
