I've realized a lot are terrified about not being the majority so they obsess about immigration even if it it's thousands of miles away and has absolutely no effect on them. There's a feeling that "their" country is being overrun by black and brown people.

Even when you look at something like abortion that's really want it comes down to. White women not having enough kids.

They were terrified back then for sure. Although maybe not as terrified as they are now.

I do think they were mostly terrified of black people coming to live in their suburbs.

Hispanic people hadn't been so completely villified to the extent they are today e.g. "bad hombres".

The fact that they still support MAGA in droves shows you how much they've had their psyches fukked up. Which you could say the same thing about a lot of posters here.

I think housing in NYC has been an issue long before those migrants ever got here and trying to frame them as the problem is propaganda and racism by the New York Post.

They're here. Stopping migration entirely is impossible. And while the solution is complex, the answer damn sure isn't to pretend they don't exist and deny them all help.
