The AC games were based around important historical events, but they were also using exaggerated versions of the characters.

The story is always based around an original narrative with the time period serving as a backdrop. But AC series always has key figures from the era, important locations, key events, etc. For example, you walk past a historical church and a blurb will pop up with history on it. Very educational and insightful
