In general Death Row albums, westcoast gangsta rap, didn't age well in comparison to the eastcoast shyt imo...Reasonable doubt, Cuban Linx, Illmatic etc all had a higher degree of intelligence to the music while LA was more on some cartoon shyt.

actually this is quiet reasonable. i would agree for the most part, except to say the elite west coast albums aged better than the elite east coast ones

Dr. Dre must have been impressed with RD since he had Jay writing lyrics for him on Chronic 2001...IJS

RD wasn't even a top 5 release from 1996.. Regional hit and revisionist classic..Blatant sharking of the Rae/Ghost/Nas/AZ model from the year before...Plus its not even Jay's best album.. I hate how it gets held up as sometype of landmark, when outside of the tri-state area nobody gave a fukk at the time...

The chronic is the only Death Row album I'd take over "reasonable doubt".

makaveli comes close though

So you're saying Dre wasn't impressed with Jay's lyrical skill huh? And actually what you said doesn't make sense. A business move? I would think that's more of an "artistic" move wouldn't you?

The industry has created the notion that albums such as Illmatic and Reasonable Doubt define the culture.
