Real talk: How was Chingy ever popular?

Basically Nelly's success pushed record labels to go into St.Louis and scout more talent.....Enter Chingy.

A cornier/less talented, charismatic version of Nelly who was on top of the game at the time. Right Thurr was a huge record tho....Chicks at my school used to get loose to it. I think he sold like 3 million records off his debut. But this was the beginning of the end....Hip-Hop was moving in a even more commercial direction. This was right when the influx of one hit wonders started blowing up getting that ringtone money with the Crunk movement dying entering Snap.

Looking back...it was a corny ass era but you still had some good shyt.

G Unit was dropping piff
Crunk Music
Snoop Dogg came back with Drop It Like Its Hot
The Neptunes/Timbo were killing it
NY Rap scene was still going strong.
Kanye dropped The College Dropout

This was right when I was getting into Hip-Hop more....After that era ended, it got extremely worse.

If Chingy came out right now with "Pullin' Me Back", "One Call Away", "Holiday Inn", and "Right Thurr" he would easily be near the top of the game. Thats how far hip hop has fallen. That "Pullin' Me Back", came on the radio the other day and i was like damn, compared to the shyt we get hit with now on a constant basis this isnt bad. Hell even in "One Call Away " he was rapping about a consistent topic that was easy to follow, you dont get that much today.

In NYC street tapes were poppin. D-block, Dipset, G-unit & Desert Storm were all occupying our ears so we only really paid attention to the dope albums. The Reason, The B coming, TM101, GRODT, Blueprint, Black Album, College Dropout, Late Reg, The Fix, Be, Come Home With Me, Stillmatic, GodSon, Lost tapes etc Actually looking back 2000-05 has 2010-2015 beat easily, even with all the corny shyt.
