I think your generalizations are basically sound. But I think as I said earlier, I can't speak to the older generation that is the conservative base. They are who they are at this point. But people who identify that way who are between 18 and 35 are a bit different. I'd say they are not far away on a lot of social issues. I.E. gay marriage.

I don't know, the people who run the board and told me months ago that certain threads should be in here (I agreed) and that I should get the participation rate up, but we met resistance precisely because of some of the attitudes in here. Thus, why I no longer move TLR threads into here even if they're about college. People who have said that there's nothing new on here. The guy who made the thread hoping for a different kind of debate (I like acri by the way, always seemed like good people...recommended him and BP for the mod spot). I see your point, but it's not an unreasonable desire for @acri1 to have my dude.

In any case, I realize that a hiphop board with a lot of black people will lean left demographically and it might not be "realistic" to have many conservatives on here, it's just wishful thinking on my part because that would be more interesting. Like other people have said, even before the great migration it was getting to the point where threads were getting redundant because we already know each other's stances on everything. If I make a thread about Obama, or religion, or anything like that I can probably guess what 90% of the regulars will say about it.

Guess we do need some new blood. I can't say I know too many staunch conservatives that aren't old white guys, but like you I have a couple of libertarian-leaning friends that like hiphop, maybe I'll invite them here.

That said, I think you have to have thick skin on a hiphop board. Maybe we could make more of an effort not to drive away people with opposing views, but it's just in our nature to talk a lot of shyt to each other whether it's about politics or anything else. I don't see anybody that's easily offended lasting too long around these parts regardless.

hmmm ok so here's a thought. How about putting up some adds on political blogs and the such? I used to get emails all the damn time from people wanting me to spot their sites on my site when it was in its hay day. Perhaps doing something like that.

I guess in general doing some SEO type shyt just for this subforum.
- have articles written pointing back to the site
- have sites pointing back to the site
- word of mouth advertising.

maybe ask users to use the facebook/tweet functions on the site more (upper right hand corner of threads).

It all helps.

right hand corner under the "daps" if you're on twitter you can tweet it, if you're on blogger you can link back (quote it in your blog) on facebook you can "share it" with your friends.

that creates backlinks that helps to boost search engine results on threads. SEO in general for a forum if possible you'd have to get into the html and update the description for keywords etc. Getting the site on DMOZ helps as well.

I remember when i first started posting in I had fun being a contrarian in the ladies room and the spot. Around my first run in College when Bush was in office and i was taking econ classes i began to cement and figure out that i was a conservative who believed in adam smith classical economics free market ideas and had fun going against the grain where everyone at rutgers hated bush and i saw how illogical they were with the hatred. Over time i realized Bush's economic policies weren't so stellar and were mundane and barely moved the needle and his foreign policy while ultimately led to some awesome outcomes that came into fruition under Obama there were some blunders that could have been avoided.

Anyway i began posting in the booth and the ladies room and my threads easily went plat in the ladies room. I was debating everybody i was a cocky little b*stard too and i knew me having an avatar of myself would make it more fun and divisive. When i started posting in Know the ledge the debates got sharper and i required having to do research which solidified my views and made me a smarter person even though the threads weren't really going platinum and there were less thread views but the debate level was higher...

I understand recruiting from TLR but TLR is basically an entertainment forum and when you are in there you just want to laugh at things political debate and philosophical engagements are on a different level so they aren't the same market.

It is what it is...its like expecting PBS or Cnbc or bloomberg to do MTV American Idol numbers...but you know what maybe we can add a little bit of the history channel in here or the discovery channel every now and then.

Back in the days you were the most hated person and the official punching bag of KTL. I was probably the ringleader of that shyt. Looking back, my behavior toward you was very ignorant often, so I apologize for that. You always seemed like a genuinely good dude.

But I realize now that myself or no one else really disliked you personally. You were just a symbol...a proxy. All of us were disgusted and pissed off at the Bush administration, Fox News, and the whole Republican political machine and insulting you was just an outlet for that outrage. You were a straight neocon/Republican party guy. We might as well have been cussing out Ari Fleischer. It wasn't really about you.

It seems as of late, you've been thinking more critically about things, as opposed to just regurgitating talking points like you used to. That's a good development. Keep at it and keep your mind open.

I have to agree with this. Even back in the days when he was getting shytted on regularly for everything from Locke vs. Hobbes to Nixon starting the NAACP, he took it surprisingly well, and was even able to laugh at himself. I wondered if he was just dense, but I was wrong.

Even here, he's been responding to people insulting him (unprovoked) with a good-natured attitude. Sly seems chill, and like an honestly good guy.

I don't come at peoples throats, but I respect it if someone wants to come at someones throat. I mean there has to be a place for intellectual discussion without having to baby the other person, and I don't mean that condescendingly like I don't need to be babied, but peoples interest on this website doesn't coincide with ours.

That would be a bytch move. Barnone did say something about reporting abuse about Mowgli or something, wasn't quite sure what he was saying. But I have never reported abuse about you one single time or anyone else I started "beef" with. I have done it when I've seen racist comments. When I see someone using racial slurs about people of any race, I've reported it. That should have no place here.

There are no internal ads saying, "hey check out this article on the main page" or anything really like that...if you're relying on someone else's own curiosity to explore your site you're shooting yourself in the foot.
