F*cking unstoppable.

From then til probably now the dopest rapper in the game

Sorry mayne but the nikka just changed the game severly during that period. No contest. Em didn't even come close lyrically (he wasn't even in it like that then he wasn't even competition to Jay like people wanna say now). Maybe DMX but he fell off bad in the same period.

I'm going to have to go with eminem, nas, and then jay z imo. But I can see why u feel this way.

I forgot about Nas. Nas was probably the top rapper in the game back in that time period. I feel the reason that Jay/Nas beef played out cause they were fightin for the crown in hip-hop and it just culminated at that point in 2001.

By 2003, Jay surpassed Nas and everybody else in the game. HE was arguably the top rapper in the game by 2003.

Californ-i-a by way of BK
1996-2000 Hov is the greatest rapper I ever heard in terms of everything. Rapping ability, ability to make hit singles, influence, etc...

Biggie is the greatest of all time to me because he has two classic albums and never had a chance to fall off, but that Jay run was something else

Garbage singles, average albums, but hey in an era of shyt, piss looks good

:manny:

I disagree. 98-2003 was alot better in hiphop than now and to me that was when it was starting to decline in quality...or more so the game started to get more commercialized by lyrics, techniciality, cred, and everything else was still taken seriously. Plus NY was on top for those years...maybe that was the reason those rappers everywhere else were trying to keep it relovent and funky wih Jay and Nas leading the equation. Why'd you think EM was on Renegade? Cause he knew Jay was arguably on point and the most known during that era...and he was ten times better lyrically IMO back then than now more question. The game was just different.

2003 50 and G-Unit came in and that was when Jay retired and his was more powerful in 4 years than I'd say anyone...but then again he's not in the same equation now of relovence or quality or whatnot compared to Jay Nas or Em. And that might be my opinion but I'm jus saying there's a reason they're still in the equation of hip-hop based on credibilty a body of work and lyricism from that period. Keep in mind that was 15-16 years ago...not long to me...but long enough. I'm high. LOL.

yeah. He was the best during that period. You can't even argue that imo. I though he fell off a bit before 03, but 98-Blueprint was just crazy.

He was putting people on too. The State Property Era jay though is my personal favorite. Philly could of had big next in the game but shyt got f*cked up.

he put out a lot of trash during that time too... I could never get into jay's music until well past that era

I think it's less his fault and the more the fact that those Swizz Beatz era beats sucked
