he put out a lot of trash during that time too... I could never get into jay's music until well past that era

I think it's less his fault and the more the fact that those Swizz Beatz era beats sucked

They sounded ahead of it's time for the time...but yeah...Swizz' beats haven't aged too well.

He was kind of like the NY version of Timbaland IMO.

Will never understand why people don't like Volume 3. I love that album
Think a lot of people feel like it's kind of shallow and the beats are a little dated. It's pretty much all straight street rap, not many concept tracks or introspective shyt

i can see why some people like it a lot because the arrogance and punchlines and swag was at an all time high on that album

Yeah good point. I love it because that's my favorite Hov. That straight raw spitting, street shyt but arrogant and fly

i would say from 96' to about 01' were his prime and peak years. jay was great back in 96' but hip hop titans like biggie and pac outshined him with their work. but his run from 96' to 01' were his best years. 02' he lost me with the blueprint 2 and i like some of the black album but not all. i enjoyed that s. carter mixtape a lot more than the actual black album to be honest.

It's crazy in 99 he was poppin bottles on the White House lawn .. And now :

Re listening to Vol.3 now .. It's got some great tracks, his flow is impeccable for the most part.

But it is oversaturated with late 90s Jiggy beats .

To be honest I rate The Dynasty above this album.
