African slavery in North America, South America, and the Caribbean is probably the single worst atrocity ever committed by the human race. Systemic racism is evil and must be eradicated.
That said, a genocide by definition is meant to extinguish a people group, and the Atlantic slave trade and slavery in general was done motivated by economic profit, not by any desire for racial or ethnic cleansing. For this reason, slavery is not technically a genocide. But it's probably just as bad or worse than any genocide that's ever happened.

@Mason83 said, ranking fukking terrible things is pretty pointless. I understand that the word "genocide" holds a power of its own and conveys a deep sense of injustice, atrocity, and loss that slavery certainly exemplifies, but I'm more in the camp that slavery is in a category of its own when it comes to the brutal, senseless, and deeply wrong actions that have occurred in the history of humanity.
