Common is top 10 Mc ever he has one of the best discographys in the game resurrection, one day, like water for chocolate, be, finding forever, the dreamer, the believer, are all classics. And whatever idiot said drake ethered him is retarded

I said that..only because I read it on here. I put quotations over "ethered" simpl because I knew some Drake stan fabricated that rumor because there ain't no way Com is getting "ethered" lyrically by some soft shoes ass nicca like Drake.

BTW, this thread is making me revisit some Common joints I forgot about.

Substitute Commom for Mos Def and then this thread becomes legit.

I was going to say, Mos Def's career now is confusing to me. He has classic songs and albums too...going back to as far back as when Common, Nas, BIG all debuted too....

His old group UTD (Urban Thermo Dynamics) with Ces and DCQ

I'll admit, I kind of lost interest in Mos' output after The New Danger....

He dropped his first album in 1992--before Nas, Jay-Z, Biggie, Eminem--and with his last album, had gems like Gold, Sweet, Raw. He has albums that people consider classic, a following that started kinda on a grassroots, while making a steady climb to commercial success which came on his fourth album--LWFC. He is as respected an MC as you will find. Naturally, he had to find other means of making money considering he was no multiplatinum artist in the firs place. With that other source of income he is now able to make music that he feels because it aint for the money. If you go to one of his shows, you'll see that he understands and embraces being an artist and performer. This dude freestyles, breakdances, spits full Biggie and Nas verses, all while performing joints from his expansive catalog. AND, he brings the ladies out. Common is in my top 10--I've been there since the day I heard Take it Eazy on 950 AM in Chicago.

That 1-9-9-9 joint put me on to Common. It was on the first And1 Mixtape Volume 1. I still remember how I felt when my nig Com said he hold the mic like a memory.

Com's had a great legacy with a lot of very diverse material. He also has a unique style of rhyming that has yet to be duplicated.

I'm not surprised that he's chasing movie/TV money right now....but I hope he comes back to rap in a bit....for some reason I feel like he won't though...

Dreamer/Believer was a solid album, maybe a little unspectacular, but if it were to be his last album. It wouldnt be a bad way to end it.

Com's at his best when the odds are against him or when he's pissed

- LWFC was him making a major label debut and I remember A LOT of people had an issue with that
- Electric Circus is prolly the most slept-on major rap release ever. Completely brave, creative and ahead of its time. You cant really place it to a particular year, movement or era...if it came out tomorrow it would be hailed the greatest thing ever. Except it dropped during the Jay vs Nas, 8 Mile/50 Cent is the Future era....NO ONE was trying to hear some eclectic, genre-fusing shyt.....which is basically what all the critics want now
- Be was considered a "return to form" because everyone had written him off after EC, and he tried EXTRA hard to do some back-to-basics shyt

- Finding Forever, UMC and Dreamer/Believer felt like he was coasting....still dope enough but lacking in hunger and immediacy...he seems happy and at peace. Respect that, but the music isnt as deep and interesting as when he has a chip on his shoulder

Champagne Papi ended this fakkit's career.

It bothers me when the Gods get to acting like the broads
Guess every team doesn't come complete with nikkas like ours
That's why I see no need to compete with nikkas like y'all
I just ask that when you see me you speak up nikkas that's all
Don't be ducking like you never wanted nothing
It's feeling like rap change
There was a time it was rugged
Back when if a nikka reached it was for the weapon
Nowadays nikkas reach, just to sell they record

Spaguetti bolognese in apollo lounge
Me and my G from DC, that's how I roll around
Might look light, but we heavy though
You think drake would pull some sh-t like that you never know
Million dollar meetings in apollo lounge
Me and my man Oliver North, that's how I roll around
Shorty wanted to tell me secrets about a rap nikka
I told that bytch it's more attractive when you hold it down
Kobe about to lose a hundred fifty M's
Kobe my nikka I hate it had to be him
bytch you wasn't with me shooting in the gym
(huh!? bytch you weren't with me shooting in the gym)

Tell lucien, and I say fukk it
I'm tearing holes my budget
Bag it like we in Publix
And take her ass out in public
Order her a filet told her butterflies, she'll love it
She's used to soda and nuggets, she's really just out here thugging
I'm just hitting my pinnacle
You and p*ssy identical
You like the fukking finish line
We can't wait to run into you

But let me get my mind off that young rich motherfukker getting mine off rap, with my nikkas!
