Worse than that IMO. Cole is a good rapper and can write a hook. There's not much interesting shyt about his life compared to other greats but he has told interesting stories, concepts etc. Reason is the most generic rapper I've heard in ages. The hooks aren't good, the raps are solid I guess but...eh at the same time? I just don't care. He just sounds like someone checking boxes, like I said earlier. I need a storytelling track because that's what rappers do. I need a club track because that's what rappers do.

Listen to his interviews...there's nothing there. Just seems joyless. I have no idea why he was signed or what the vision was. But then again, you can say the same thing about the other dude TDE signed recently. Ray Vaughn. Even their names are generic/derivative as fukk.
J Cole actually improved he just doesn't have an overarching image so it just comes off as kinda random

Its soundcloud rap

This man has absolutely no edge to anything. This is a highly produced project for a generic mid artist... and the only reason I knew it was coming out was because of the thread on here with him getting shytted on by Moosa.

i think if you like tde-style production and flows you'll enjoy the album on some level. def sounds like a product of their machine. i enjoyed it about as much as the last project. i do think the criticisms are valid. he needs to emote more, maybe? he is a decent rapper he just comes off a bit dull, lacking conviction.

I don't get the reason for the hate (No pun).

From At it again to FTN! is undeniable. Reason can rap but these days that is not enough. With him there aren't many theatrics and antics so people don't care but if you like good West Coast rap then this is worth a listen. He is better than most rappers now a days, the beats are fire and his song writing has improved a lot. shyt, this album even has some bangers on here imo.

My only critique is you can tell he was influenced by early Kendrick but with time he will grow into his own. He should also explore different concepts, don't listen to other emcee's and do shyt out of the box but that will come with time.
