There is nuffin underground about an album.
which contained a lead single for a movie breh.
Jay revised history for his rating, based on jiggy commercialism.
Plus, sentiment from gateway puff fans and over emotional loss of big fans.

You might recall that it was a Def Jam soundtrack and that it was their new signee named Foxy Brown's "big single" that summer.
You might also know that soundtracks usually have independent artists on them. Some of them even made fully by independent artists.

Hearing the people that were involved speak about it, it was an underground. I don't know why you would think that you hold more weight on the history of the album than Lyor Cohen, Irv Gotti, Ski, Clark Kent, Dame Dash, Hoffa, Hype Williams and on :snoop:

Nikkas don't remember a time before Internet buzz.

It took Illmatic 7 years to go platinum. Is anyone going to deny that Illmatic is a classic?
i always deny illmatic. It meant very little when it dropped and has been talked up

List a bunch of sellout culture thieves with the same agenda and try to talk about cultural viability, breh.

Big difference still. Illmatic was still HIGHLY praised when it came out. RD wasnt acknowledged for the most part cuz most people
didnt know or care about Jay-Z - until he blew w/ Def Jam behind him. Its just facts.

It kinda goes along with my point about post-death. Would 2pac's Killuminati been deemed as a classic if that wasnt his last album recorded and released right after he died? We dont know. However 2pac still had highly regarded albums prior to that album.

I keep sayin it over & over again - as much as people in hip-hop say they dont listen to radio & all that, its still what influences these
same cats. Im totally against it. Im not one foot in, one foot out. That "impact" is created by the same machine, it goes for any album; hip-hop or not. Cuz what it does it creates a picture frame of the current era. Then it becomes nostalgia for the ones who remember hearing it/listening to it at the time. BUT, at the same time; radio is BUSINESS, NOT necessarily "great music" (in most cases).

That's like bringin up that MJ didn't win the finals his rookie season...He's fukkin MJ wtf does that matter :mindblown:

No one has had the run/career that Jay has had...Yall mines well bring up the fact that labels didn't wanna sign him too smh...As if any of that matters...

Reasonable doubt was his first album and he delivered musically, Success came in abundance later..fukk is yall complaining about like really :what:

Nikkas loved that nikka until that sellout 2nd album. We only bigged up RD for the same reason
