we all have different musical tastes though, I don't like what you like so what?

gkmc was not just praised by new generation of fans, its universally acclaimed... it means publications from EVERY musical genre praises it.

Personally, its one of my favorite albums of all time and I'm not new to this genre. I'd even go as far as calling it a masterpiece

We also don't have the same cynicism in musical journalism. Cuz, of course, music publications are never bias...

:troll:

Look, dude, it's a good album. I have no bad things to say about it.

Interscope didn't promote kendrick until he went gold on his own. 50 cent even talked about it when he left Interscope, saying Jimmy was a bytch for this and this is true... I remember best buy & target saying the album was undershipped first week... and kendrick still managed to do 240K first week. I and all my friends had to buy it on itunes :snoop:
very true. Interscope is pushing it now but Kendrick's praise has nothing to do with them. TDE & kendrick had to do everything when gkmc dropped.

Publications written by white trustfund babies from Bronxville, NY working in Manhattan. :snoop: That's the problem with so many "Hip Hop heads" who have zero connection to THE GHETTO, the place where Hip Hop actually comes from. :comeon: Most "Hip Hop heads" born and raised in mainstream America need to be told something is classic or hot instead of judging for themselves. The original Source critic who gave Illmatic 5 mics was that Asian bytch Miss Info. :dwillhuh: If you rely solely on the mainstream media to tell you what's hot and classic, you're a lost sheep. The mainstream could never understand the hood unless you grew up there and the majority of Americans grew up in the mainstream. Kendrick is so big is that he has crossed over to the mainstream from Complex reading hipsters and suburbanites, corny token suburban blacks and cacs galore. If all your friends say something is dope, you'll agree. This is also the reason why so many old heads say all new Hip Hop is garbage because they don't have their crew of flunky high school friends to co-sign. :pacspit:

professional music publication started to praise gkmc because of the reaction. People & independent journalists went crazy when it leaked. Some publications even decided to revisit the album. IE: NME gave initially gave it a 6/10 and then gave it a 9.5/10 few weeks later because of the people.

You're the type of fan I'm talking about.

Let's just keep our differences in opinion and KIM.

The album is good, the hype was largely manufactured. I'm too intelligent (ex how you can sway public opinion in a country that largely operates under "group thinK") to fall for it.

Ya'll talk about it like it's Songs In The Key...

Bullshyt.

it is possible to talk about music with objectivity (not saying everything is objective though) if you can put your bias aside. I'm from the hood but a lot of albums made for the hood are actually garbage from an objective standpoint.

And I have seen almost everybody praise the album, journalists, black people, cacs, streets nikkas, hip hop heads, nerds and fans from other genres.

All the hype comes from the leak. people thought it was that good and it started selling.

EVERYBODY will tell you that it was IMPOSSIBLE to find the album in stores, shyt was undershipped and not even promoted as it should have been.

thank you.

50 cent said it better when he left interscope and iovine:

"the last successful project from Dr Dre was the Game record. Then Kendrick comes, but the footwork that they did at TDE was responsible for Kendrick’s sales, not what they did for him at Interscope. Because they didn’t catch up to the record ’til after the sales surpassed the radio picture. He got all the fans doing the footwork, running around doing shows, and it actually paid off.” (XXL Magazine)"

Yea', cuz Interscope had nothing to do with that...

Again, it's not enough that I think it's a good album. I have to buy into the hype, also.

"i" is wack and corny but I respect his musicianship. Its a real song. Corny, but real. In my opinion it will be a commercial success. The pop aspect of the song will cater to the wider audience his previous singles didnt.

He made a wack corny but smart single

yeah GKMC deserves every bit of praise. It's a beautiful album made of many musical elements. from 2006 to 2014 I only gave a 4.5 or 5/5 to 3 albums: below the heavens, gkmc & distant relatives

One of the best albums in a very long time, and not just in hip hop :wow:

I didn't want to listen to it because of the dikkriding but I can't front, when I gave it a listen it blew my mind :yeshrug:
