i think its going to be a combination of announcements
remaster for current gen
release on PC
along with a window for when we can expect the next iteration.
RDR's online was just fine. What I fear is Rockstar focusing too much on online and the whole thing turning into a western GTA Online clone. I thought what Red Dead Redemption did was fine, having the occasional character and game mode updates.

Never got a chance to finish the OG so I'd be just fine with a next gen remaster 
I doubt it would be a remaster when they allowed the OG to be Backwards compatible on the xbox one
